D&D (2024) Check Out The New Monster Manual’s Ancient Gold Dragon

Whoops. I could have sworn I read otherwise. I just kept cycling through them. Yeah, if they don’t use them more than once, they are lackluster. I totally agree with you then. Still, their numbers and design works a bit better in some cases. They deal a lot more damage, for a start.

D&D (2024) Check Out The New Monster Manual’s Ancient Gold Dragon

Eh, I think you misunderstood. Villain actions can be used multiple times per fight. I thought it would be weaker to only do something off-turn once, but it actually speeds up the game because I interrupt the turn flow less. My players enjoyed that too. Listen, I don’t like everything about...

Why do you say that? I have had great success with them.

D&D (2024) Check Out The New Monster Manual’s Ancient Gold Dragon

Why? Because I believe in the game at the table being different than the game discussed here on the forums. Testing helps me run better games. And solo fights are classic. I want them to be possible in D&D. So far only MCDM seems to have figured out how to do it well.

D&D (2024) Check Out The New Monster Manual’s Ancient Gold Dragon

Alright! I tested the new Ancient Gold Dragon today against a kitted out group of 3 20th level characters. I rolled up a list of totally random itemsbased on the magic item tracker sheet. The PC's also had most resources reduced by 1/3rd to simulate some adventuring beforehand. We had a Circle...

D&D (2024) Check Out The New Monster Manual’s Ancient Gold Dragon

Am I calculating something wrong? A lvl19 PC has a High budget of 17,200. Times 4 = 68,800 68,800 - 65.000 = 3,800 left. So it's without lair actions, right? EDIT: Oh, the gold dragon lair doesn't have lava :devilish:

D&D (2024) Check Out The New Monster Manual’s Ancient Gold Dragon

Alright, since you guys have been arguing about it: tomorrow I will test the dragon agianst a 19th level party. To even out the initiative, I will add 4 Metallic Peacekeepers. I'll use the Red Dragon lair from Fizban's, but I haven't decided on much else. Any advice to make this gold dragon...

D&D General Poll: Did you watch the D&D cartoon when it was new?

Talking more about age. All who said yes had to be born in the 80's or earlier.

D&D (2024) Check Out The New Monster Manual’s Ancient Gold Dragon

Sure, they should be able to defeat it, I'd just prefer it to be a tense fight. I will be testing 4 lvl19 PC's against one this weekend.

D&D (2024) Check Out The New Monster Manual’s Ancient Gold Dragon

I mean, if you fight in the best way for a fighter to fight it, sure. But the dragon can use its reach. Maybe try a sharpshooter build.

D&D (2024) Check Out The New Monster Manual’s Ancient Gold Dragon

Hmm, characters teleport around a lot and don't tend to instantly die at tier 4. I'm gonna test him out this saturday in the Red Dragon lair from Fizban's against a lvl16 party.

D&D (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

Like with most clickbait questions in a title: the answer is 99% no. No, sandbox campaigns are not dead.

D&D (2024) Check Out The New Monster Manual’s Ancient Gold Dragon

Banishment can only be used once per round. It looks nice. I don't think it can challenge a full lvl20 party, but nice.

D&D (2024) Expectations for Thursday Monstrosities video?

I expect another video that’s too long with a bunch of old white dudes who tell me nothing I actually am interested in. I have done online viewing parties for all of the previously premiered videos on 5e24, but I am tired boss.

D&D (2024) Check Out The New Monster Manual’s Ancient Gold Dragon

Hold up. That banish. DC24 Cha save or deal damage, incapacitate someone, take them out of the fight and PLACE THEM BACK ANYWHERE WITHIN 120FT OF THE DRAGON!? There's gonna be a lot of characters dropped from 120ft or higher into lava. Also: no attack bonus on the stat block for guiding bolt...

    D&D 5E Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

Dissenting elements just becomes thread-derailing negativity. It's tiresome. There are some I can't ignore here because they pull entire discussions towards their discontent with 5e. Civil as it might be, it's never eye opening, inspiring or fun.
