Classes are a sacred cow, but they are a sacred cow that works well by clearly defining the roles--ensuring niche protection--and deliniating those roles to newbies and grognards alike in clear, concise terms. Classes make the game easy to learn and play- keep them!

Stargate SG-1 It's a science fiction RPG that you can (as Bruce Baugh puts it) "play dumb" (not insulting; means you can play it cold) with a default gameplay paradigm as strong as that of D&D or Spycraft, so playing and running is easy to learn yet leaves much room for mastery.

I don't go because the locals ones are either badly advertised (if at all) or positioned on weekends where I have prior commitments. I don't go to out of town cons because of the expense involved. I can afford one con a year, so I go to the big SF/F con in town: CONvergence.

He moved recently. His new place has no access, and he has limited transportation availability. He's doing what he can to rectify this, but seeing as Cryptosnark is his income that's going to be difficult.

The d20 Publisher forum, because it's where I'm most likely to get answers to questions from 3rd-party publishers right away during my daily forum patrols.

    Weapons Locker info

The mechanics need to be there because there is no other playable way to make those distinctions appear where they need to in actual play, with regard to real guns. Some of these may be useful in SW (because they're showing up in SG-1 with regard to energy weapons), but that's conjecture on my...

Why is fantasy the dominant RPG genre?

Tell that to the White Wolf crew (and those that follow their school of thought), as they certainly say that RPGs are about amateur theater first and gameplay second.

    Things that annoy your PCs?

My PCs? Nothing yet. My players, on the other hand, are annoyed that the NPCs are too easy to defeat. (They make great plans, follow them and use them against NPCs that don't plan well and aren't too bright; it's a classic case of hitting them where they ain't.) That will soon change.

Why is fantasy the dominant RPG genre?

They have the opportunity, but they almost never take it. As the WotC market survey made clear, most people quit the hobby altogether when they quit D&D; the few that go play other RPGs are a distinct minority. This is true. Joe Gamer is there to play a game first, last and foremost. He's...

Yep, I'm going for the name recognition/network externalities angle.

Exalted I've wanted to run my Saga of Thorns game for years now, with players playing multiple characters over the course of the saga, but there's been no takers so far.

More important is this: it keeps the players actively involved in the game.

Why is fantasy the dominant RPG genre?

Want the real answer? Go dig into the archives and look up the Ryan Dancey interviews from around the launch of D&D 3.0. He explained it in terms that everyone here approaches, but doesn't quite connect to the truth.

Spycraft Espionage Handbook For the first time in a very long time, I'm enjoying the pure thrill of the hobby again as I once did when I first got into it back in 1981. The reason is because this is the first game other than D&D & Star Wars (for me) to present such a strong gameplay paradigm...
