    D&D 5E 5e turned up to 11

Dont be ridiculous. What sort of fool would ever allow that? The bar for this one, for me, was set by dragonlance. Flying on the back of a dragon committing to ariel battle whilst a flying fortess drifts towards its target. Thats the sweet spot for me.

D&D 5E Dear 5e design team: Please research earlier editions

I wasnt aware that early D&D had this rule. I must admit I have often wondered what it would be like if damage was using d6's only and to emulate "more damage" you just put on more d6's. Like make a 1h attack a d6 and a two handed a 2d6. If nothing else just to get rid of 4/6 of the dice we must...

D&D 5E How creative should 5e let you be?

Totally agree. Really? I actually had the opposite effect. I was in the "Say Yes" mode before 4e, the more I played 4e, the more I found that becoming "Say No". I guess we had a different experience. As to the topic at hand, I am a huge advocate for creative play. To me, thats the big...

To Heal or Not to Heal

I would prefer using NWN style "healing kits" before slabs of healing potions.

To Heal or Not to Heal

Im with you on this. I would like effective out of combat healing. Its the best solution to me. I have always enjoyed the cleric, every aspect. From the general flavor (I like playing the fanatic, gives the something "RP" I can sink my teeth into) to the whole support role bit. What I have...

D&D 5E Dear 5e design team: Please research earlier editions

I just dont know where the OP's assumption comes from, to assume that the designers havent done their homework. Here is the thing. Its their job, they do this for a living. That means their livelihoods are based on their success. When Im in that position, I do everything in my power to ensure a...

We get nothing that big in Australia. Kinda envious.

    The Rogue and Sneak Attacking

I will second this. Having DM'd a 4e rogue for years I can honestly say it was a very well put together class, excellent balance for what it was designed to do. Its what it was designed to do that I didnt like. Highly reliable damage in a fight, as far as I am concerned, is what the fighter is...

    The Rogue and Sneak Attacking

This has come up a couple of times now and I will respond the same way I do every time. Im just not that fond of the sneak attack direction 3e and 4e took on. This doesnt come from some grognard belief...it comes from having played 3e for and 4e each for many years. I got both editions, I...

Who else wants damage tracked separately per hit ?

Well, I dont think I need to add my voice to the big general thumbs down this got... ...but I will. No, not for me. I wont to streamline D&D, and adding extra complication to something that already worked well enough for me isnt something I want.

    Kill the skinny halfling!

The Dark Sun Halfling. Emaciated and cannibalistic! Still my favorite character ever, there is so much fun to be had in a party when your a cannibal.

Feat points for getting feats instead of fixed feat slots at levels?

It is my sincerest hope for simplification in character design. For me personally this idea just goes in the wrong direction.

    April 3rd, Rule of 3

Oh Doom, Oh Gloom! He said the exact things I would expect someone in his position to say. Well thats it, Im out.... No wait. Im an adult and fully understand that everything he said is reflective of an early stage development where ideas are still on the board. Im not out, its even ridiculous...

To a degree, I agree with you. Too often the respon ses simply dont match what I want to say.

    Hex or grid?

OMG OMG OMG OMG. That is EXACTLY what happened to us. Even to the "somewhere along the way it stopped being fun", that is what happened to me as well. For all that the precision that the 4e battlegrid gave us, it just wasnt the same. Even if others DID have fun with battlegrid, its good to...

    Hex or grid?

As soon as you put it on a map, my immersion is broken. Hex or squares doesnt fix that for me either way. I am willing to use maps if required, but I would so prefer WOTC to come up with an abstract method or battlefield representation instead.

    Get Rid of Proficiencies

Hellelujah! Seriously, sometimes I feel so alone in this belief. Specialization to achieve feasibility is a crutch of the fighter. One of the best things they could do for the fighter is give him the ability to adapt and change tactics during a fight. But when you have to specialize to "keep...

    Get Rid of Proficiencies

I might not have put it in such sharp terms, but to a degree I agree with this. Proficiencies has always been one of those things in the fighters favor. Putting 4e aside (as it balanced the fighter, albeit in a way Im still not fond of) in 3.X the fighter struggled to keep up with casters. One...

    Falling from Great Heights

I have said this before but I think hp is a good abstract methodology for representing damage for the purpose of combat resolution. I always find it a goofy mechanism once you step outside of it. This only became goofier with Healing surges... DM : The jump looks really dangerous Player : Jump...
