    A Common problem.

Never really bothered me. I always thought of language issues as a very occasional plot injection, and over-using language just tended to create frustration. To me, having a common language is just another bit of "grease" in the proverbial engine to keep things ticking over, and Im happy with that.

D&D 5E Basic 5E: Weapons and Armor as style choice...

Often had this exact same thought. I wont say Im a crusader for this approach, but I understand where you are coming from and agree with what you have said. Especially regarding armor. Fighters (historically) have always had best armor, therefore best AC (generally)...therefore high AC is, by...

    D&D 4E 4E's "Proud Nails"

Really? I love that idea. Then again, alot of the thing other people loved about 4e were nails for me. I accept that opinions vary. We house-ruled that you couldn't end a short rest under 75% hp if you had a surge to spend. It not only made sense from a RW POV (Just how do you NOT spend a HS...

Now who would go and do a thing like that... ...oooohhh. Gotcha ;)

Excising, Severely Limiting, or Strictly Organizing Feats

I like the idea of not needing to pick feats at all = when I pick the class, thats all I needed to do. Then, for the people who like to micro-manage the process a bit more, splat books present swapping options. So, for instance, if (hyperthetically) the fighter came with an in-built power...

    Dear WotC: Be Blizzard

There is late, and then there is LATE! (Diablo3 Im looking at you!) Then again, I did pre-purchase my copy of diablo3 as soon as they announced the release date. I have also put in for holidays that week and put my wife and kids on a plane to see her cousin in Sydney. I have literally put a...

Excising, Severely Limiting, or Strictly Organizing Feats

You know, Im not to opposed to this. I sorta agree. I see this paralleled in other things. Look at whats happening with Diablo and WoW...both are falling back to far simpler character definition models. I know they arent necessarily a perfect parallel with D&D(there are massive objective...

Excising, Severely Limiting, or Strictly Organizing Feats

As far as I am concerned, if players cant reasonably wrap their heads around the span of feats available to them without the aid of software, a search engine of hitting forums, there are too many.

D&D 5E First Strike: Initiative in Next

My preference is something a bit more "house-ruly" but really requires software to back it (dont worry, its easy enough, just takes more rolling :( ) Basically, initiative is constantly re-rolled. At the start of round, roll init. Highest acts. Then, when a creature finishes its turns...

    D&D 5E 5E and Backwards Compatibility

Does it need it? 4e had next to none. At best it emulated certain tropes and I wouldnt for a second say that it suffered as a result. Im really not concerned if it doesnt.

    D&D 5E Levels and Spell Levels - what's your preference for 5E?

Fair Enough. But if you are going to do that, why have spell levels at all? Why not just say that spells a) Have a minimum caster level b) Cost X amount to resources to learn/use

D&D 4E 4E combat and powers: How to keep the baby and not the bathwater?

Wow. Im just trying to find a place on this planet that is completely opposite to this statement. I absolutely and without any reservation, completely disagree with this. At least try to say "this is my opinion" or something like that. Trying to state something like this as fact when its...

D&D 4E 4E combat and powers: How to keep the baby and not the bathwater?

thank you for saying. Would have xp,d but not working on iPad. Odd that. Absolutely. You can't on the one hand say "here is a set of rules for power definitions that dictate how actions are performed in the clearest and most concise way possible" (and all due respect to 4e, it succeed in that...

    Rule of Three: 20/3/12

Minion rules...meh. Couldn't give a rats either way. Now, what they mentioned about fighters and rogue...ooo baby, now that is what I wanted to hear. It's funny reading some previous posts were people were saying they didn't like the idea. Just goes to show how opinions can divide.

    D&D 5E Levels and Spell Levels - what's your preference for 5E?

I voted for 0-9, because it was a distinct "wizard-ism". Im not really for Vancian memorization though. Would far prefer a system where I can cast any spell I like as often as I like, but a spell roll is involved where we roll a d20, adding level and Stat bonus and subtracting something based on...

D&D 4E 4E combat and powers: How to keep the baby and not the bathwater?

Dont assume its 3e players that hate it to death. Im a 4e player that hates it to death!

How much culture should be hardcoded into races?

Im all for it. Maybe not as core rules, but as a supplement certainly. This is a role playing game, meaning you play the part of a character. Part of being able to take of the role of a character is having a clear idea of what that character is (which is NOTHING to do with...

D&D 4E 4E combat and powers: How to keep the baby and not the bathwater?

Li is right, lets focus on the point of this thread. At a high level, we need something for the fighter that is more interesting than "I attack". There is debate over whether 4e's power structure is appropriate for the fighter, and frankly I am also with Li on this. The SoD left me scratching...

D&D 4E 4E combat and powers: How to keep the baby and not the bathwater?

Given. But why, in a game that players can basically attempt anything they like, have powers at all? (Well, for martial pursuits at least) Sure they give structure, and they give clear delineation of what is and isnt possible, and give guidelines for determining probability. Great. But why have...

D&D 4E 4E combat and powers: How to keep the baby and not the bathwater?

At this stage, Im going to stop using the word "Fiat". Its too strong in terms of lingo. Im just going to refer to it as "decision". Isnt that why we have the DM, for making decisions? If we dont let them DM make decisions...why play? If I didnt want a DM making a decision, I would play a...
