    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Ranger

Here's an idea I toyed with when trying to make a spell-less ranger: Since a ranger needs wisdom to use his spells, I think it can be too advantageous if you just give him something else, as that means he can dump his wis score without loosing much. (Granted, the wis score is pretty useful in...

    Streamlining disarm, sunder & trip

*bump* Anyone have any thoughts on whether this streamlining would be a good or bad idea?

Standing up from prone and AoO

Even if the AoO happens during the action that triggers it, does it prevent the action from being completed after the AoO is resolved? Basically, which of the following is correct: 1: You can't try to trip someone as the AoO you get from him trying to get up, as he's already down when the AoO...

    Streamlining disarm, sunder & trip

Pre 3.5e there was some talk on these boards about disarm, sunder & trip being too easy. With 3.5e these actions got even easier, as the 'Improved' feats now grant a +4 bonus to the opposed roll as well. (And now that standing up from prone provokes an AoO, tripping is even better than...

Standing up from prone and AoO

Excactly when does an AoO takes place? If it is resolved before the action that triggers it, you won't be able to make a trip attack as your AoO against someone trying to stand up from prone, as they're actually still prone when the AoO is triggered. Or what?

    A better spell focus?

Not sure. If I were to make a 'Greater School Focus' I would probably have it grant the same benefits (+1 to DC and +1 to CL, stacking with the first feat, for a total of +2, +2). But I would give it a prereq of Caster Level 9+, as this will lessens the feat's impact on spells that max out at...

    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Errata Reporting

Regarding shuriken and slings Reading further down on p.113, it states that shuriken are treated as ammunition even though they are thrown weapons. In the sling description p.121 it states that loading a sling requires a move action (maybe to balance out that slings now get strenght bonus to...

    A better spell focus?

Let's for a moment forget about the 3.5e spell focus only giving +1. Also, lets for a moment assume that you don't allow greater spell focus (like Andy said, if you don't use greater spell focus, letting SF give +2 would still be balanced). So you're left with a balanced feat, that ups the DC...

    Compiled 3.5 Revisions

About normal arrows from magic bows overcomming DR: Oops! Sorry about repeating it then! (I checked the first page for this under 'Equipment' which is why I didn't see that you already had it up.) I too am surprised by this change. Even if you can't apply logic to magic, it seems odd (and...

    Compiled 3.5 Revisions

From p.22 of the WotC '3.5 Q&A unanswered questions' thread: 8) From the DMG: "Ammunition fired from a projectile weapon with an enhancement bonus of +1 or higher is treated as a magic weapon for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction." edit: Isn't this new to 3.5e?

Casting on the Defensive -- Opposed Roll?

As far as I remeber, what you propose is identical to Monte Cook's variant from his site. I will use the following mechanic for casting defensively in my upcomming campaign: Casting Defensively: DC 10+spell level+ref save of threatening creature. For one thing, this does away with the extra...

    Less deadly crits

For an upcomming campaign starting at 1st level I'm considering changing the way critical hits work, to the following: On a confirmed crit you only multiply the weapon's damage die. (Not all the bonuses too.) My reason for doing this, is that I want the lower strenght meleers to not fall too...

    Halfelf variant

Even with the 3.5e changes to the halfelf, it still seems a little weak compared to most of the other races. So here's my idea for a fix: Halvelves get the abilities listed in PH with the following changes and adjustments: +2 to Diplomacy and Gather Information. (This ability from 3.5e...

    Less deadly Coup de Grace

IME as a DM I've found myself holding off on using Coup de Grace vs the PC's as I don't really want to kill them off. Therefore I'm working on a less deadly CdG that I can actually use against my players, giving them a fair chance of survival. So far, this is what I have: CdG save DC is...

I've got the 3.5 PHB in front of me

I saw an argument somewhere, that if two-weapon fighting is balanced through levels 1 to 5 - where it doubles the amount of attacks - it looses potency when characters reaches BAB +6, as it now no longer doubles the possible amount of attacks. Therefore, I suspect that ITWF will have a prereq...

Disarm as an attack of opportunity

Some time ago I wrote WotC to ask about this, here's my question and their answer: Q: 'Is there something in the rules that state or imply that an AoO cannot provoke an AoO?' A: 'Yes. It is a free action that is taken as the result of a combatant effectively leaving themselves open to an...

Does this mean that there's no reason to use masterwork arrows with a masterwork bow?
