Questions about ritual books (and shifting)

    4) It costs the Market Price of the ritual to copy/transcribe it. So the only reason to copy a ritual from a book you already own is consolidation.

Looking for clarification on SLOWED condition

That might be able to be argued, but then you run into Shift+Walk not being a double move, therefore you end up moving 3 squares. That seems very odd considering you're moving slower than double-walking.

Does Dire Rat Filth Fever work like the DMG says it should?

All diseases work the same. You get a Saving Throw at the end of the encounter to throw off the disease. To work otherwise would be slightly overpowered (in terms of diseases). The wording might seem inconsistent... but try to point out where it IS consistent throughout all 3 books.

Does charge provoke OA from target of charge?

Yes, you would get the OA because of Polearm Gamble. You would also grant CA to that enemy if you don't have a way to stop him.

Do conjured attackers provide cover and flanking to allies?

Unless the effect specifies that the conjuration can flank, it can not flank. Unless the effect specifies that the conjuration can take OAs, it can not take OAs. Unless the effect specifies that the conjuration occupies a square, it does not occupy a square.

    Halfling Staff Wizard . . . impossible?

You can use a staff, you just can't use a quarterstaff (therefore, a staff) as a weapon. You can still use it as an implement.

    Line of Sight

Ah, but is the "corner of your square" still counted as part of your square, or is it in some mystical place between the squares?

    Line of Sight

The rules actually seem to be silent on the issue. They never really cover what happens on the edges between squares. Personally, I rule that as long as you are in an effect that blocks LoS, you can't see squat.

All monsters equal? Goblin Warrior vs Kobold Skirmisher.

That's interesting... Then again, it's slightly fitting. Kobolds have always been considered a physically weak race, who use amazing traps and tactics to offset their disadvantages. Goblins, however, are generally portrayed as stupid meatheads, lacking tactics other than "Charge!" [At least...

    Line of Sight

First picture: Definitely no Line of Sight for either. Second picture: I can't see anything that's wrong, but it would make it better if each creature chose the best possible case to determine LoS. #1 might have LoS if you check from the top-right of the target. #5 might have LoS if you...

    Range and sustain

    1. Yes, as soon as you are out of range of a conjuration/zone, it goes *poof* instantly. 2. Doesn't matter, but if it was possible, I would say no to sustaining out of range. 3. I rule it as having to stay within "X" squares, where X is the range of the spell. (e.g. Close Burst 2, you'd...

If immobilized, can you stand up?

Being immobilized doesn't preclude standing up. All immobilze effectively accomplishes is that you can not move from your square. An easy way to accomplish what you're looking for might be the following: If the attack hits, the target is knocked prone and grabbed. As long as the grab...

    Quest question

*shrug* I just went off what the DMG has for quest XP. I feel that the quest rewards in KotS are bloated. This was probably done so that you can actually hit level 3 before the end of the module. Personally, I wouldn't assign XP based on how difficult the quest is, but on how long it is...

    Quest question

Yes, Quest XP is awarded in addition to encounter XP. Proper XP for the quest, if you decide it is necessary, would probably be 100-150 XP. The kobold lair is more of a side quest, so less XP is handed out. (Note that Quest XP is split between people who participate. This quest would give...

    1 page character sheet?

Neceros has made a pretty good one page sheet. Check the 4e Section.

    D&D Character Builder Preview Video

Here's the problem with that thinking... as they add more stuff, the subscription will keep increasing. Right now, it's $4.95/month for access to just Dungeon/Dragon and whatever demo/betas they put out. Once the character builder is finalized, the price will increase to (most likely)...

    Some questions about flaming sphere

Last time this was hashed out with Customer Service, we got several no's, several yes's, and a couple "Ask your DM." By absolute RAW, there is nothing limiting it to the ground. There is also nothing explicitly stating that it can fly. By flavor text, the flaming sphere "rolls," which can...

    Wand of Accuracy question

Wand of Accuracy is a free action. Therefore, you must use it before you attack.

    Swordmage Dimensional Dodge question

Shield seems to work differently. Shield happens before the action that triggered it is resolved. So if Bob has an AC of 17, gets hit with an 18, and uses Shield... the attack is now against an AC of 21, which fails. In comparison, Dimensional Dodge does not change anything except what square...
