Dear Wizards of the Coast blog post...

If it were me, this is what I would do. 1. I would continue work on 5e, and it would be main edition I would plan for WotC to support and produce material for. Even if people don't end up adopting it, it will still create buzz and web traffic because it's new. 2. I would make the whole...

Dear Wizards of the Coast blog post...

While I certainly don't think it would hurt them to have all their old catalog on PoD, and it might even make them a small amount of money and would certainly earn them some good will, I definitely don't want them to stop working on the new edition, that would be foolish. I want 5e, I like new...

Giving the Fighter a Unique Identity

I really don't want a fighter that's a bunch of prepackaged abilities. I want a class that is tough, dangerous in combat, can protect their allies (even if that just means a that disengaging from melee is somewhat difficult), and is essentially a stunt class. Make things like tripping and...

    PCs vs. DMPCs

    Isn't that a good thing?

Spells that should be rituals or cantrips.

I've never really understood this argument. Why would a would you waste your time and money on something that the rogue could do faster and for free? This is something that is really only useful if you don't have a rogue, or one who knows sod all about lock picking.

Why Do Clerics Get to Spontaneously Cast Their Prepared Spells, But Not Wizards?

There are a lot more demands on a clerics spellcasting from other players than there are on the wizards. If go back to the old pre-3e model, then clerics simply have to prepare a lot of healing spells and just give up on doing anything more interesting with their spellcasting, or at least they...

Why Do Clerics Get to Spontaneously Cast Their Prepared Spells, But Not Wizards?

Because it's an intrinsic part of the wizard's identity.

Does Anyone Find the Encumbrance Amounts Unrealistic?

The more they can get away from fiddly stuff like that the better IMHO, personally I prefer a nice binary unencumbered/encumbered. D&D at its heart is a pretty abstract game, why get bogged down in minutia?

    Rant After Play-Test

You do understand that this is a playtest and not a final product, that there will be errors and experimentation to see what works and what doesn't? I'm, frankly, not certain why you would be angry. To be so at this point seems somewhat unreasonable. Perhaps playtesting isn't for you, and...

D&D 5E Playtesting D&D Next: Reapers, Cantrips, Turnings, Rests...

I feel like WotC has still, somehow, not managed to learn any lessons from Paizo's success. Relax a little WotC, your fans want to help you out, support you, and see what you've been doing, why make it hard on them? Why make them jump through hoops? Why not use reliable distribution channels...

    The playtest has begun

Got to say I'm not exactly impressed, and I haven't even had a chance to look at the playtest stuff yet. WotC, how you do things matters.

I don't like Dragonborn: Please come and bring friends.

Bolding mine. Is this really necessary, do you really need full page write-ups for the most generic of fantasy races, races that many people that have never even seen a die with more or less than six sides could give you a basic overview of because they've been in tons of movies and books and...

    Just Two... More... Days!

Ugh, it's the 24th here already. Impatience growing.

    Just Two... More... Days!

Excited and a little apprehensive, with a growing sense of impatience would, I think, be an accurate description of my mood regarding the upcoming playtest.

I don't like Dragonborn: Please come and bring friends.

I have to be honest, this doesn't really make a lot of sense, and it's not something I've ever seen. People typically want certain options excluded so other people can't have them, and people typically want certain options included so they can use those options themselves. There is a marked...

I don't like Dragonborn: Please come and bring friends.

I would give you xp if I could, but I can't because I evidently need to spread it around or some such business. Anyway I was just commenting in the other thread about dragonborn that:

    D&D 5E I don't like Dragonborn: Please stay away from D&D Next.

My hope is they will include a lot of races (and classes) with very succinct, short write-ups. Races especially don't need a lot of fluff laid into their descriptions, since it's something that should change a fair bit from setting to setting. There should be just enough there to get you...

    D&D 5E 5E and the OGL

Can you actually back that up?

    D&D 5E 5E and the OGL

For the record I'm talking about as an ongoing product it had a pretty short shelf life, I'm not referrring to quality, my own personal feelings aside, I know it has a number of devoted fans. However that it wasn't performing up to snuff in terms of sales, ie failed, seems difficult to argue...
