    D&D 5E 5E and the OGL

I'll let all the people using microwaves, wood stoves, and electric stoves know they're doing it wrong. The OGL was just one way of doing things, the problem is that WotC chose their method, then made a bunch of foolish decisions and tried to abandon it rather than work it to its full...

    A Rekindled Glimmer of Hope

There are people that like classes to play dramatically differently, and that includes how important luck is to a classes performance. For instance it's not uncommon to see proc or crit based classes in MMO's and other computer RPG's, or classes that have an immense amount of control, but...

    D&D 5E 5E and the OGL

Except the OGL was less like leaving the gas on and more like owning a gas stove. Leaving the gas on is not unlike any one of the many stupid mistakes WotC made by not using their kitchen appliances (the OGL) with forethought and responsibility. Sure you could remove the chance of a gas...

    D&D 5E 5E and the OGL

Well if you hadn't been able to buy all those third party products would you have poured that money into WotC stuff instead, or without all those third party products to use and supplement your WotC purchases would you have likely bought less of WotC's products.

    D&D 5E 5E and the OGL

Like I said before, the OGL made Pathfinder possible, it's not the cause for its existence. There is a difference.

[L&L] Balancing the Wizards in D&D

    Good lord, I hope not.

[L&L] Balancing the Wizards in D&D

I would argue that they didn't balk at that particular design philosophy so much as the execution. Bring all the other classes up is not the same as give them all the same power system and at the same time drastically change how a lot of classes function.

[L&L] Balancing the Wizards in D&D

I'm going to be honest, I'm a little concerned about the level of focus on the wizard. I really feel like there is a quite a bit of hyperbole when it comes to the class, and that there is a perception that doesn't really match their actual capabilities as the gaming table. The quest for...

    D&D 5E 5E and the OGL

That`s edging mighty close to a personal attack. As an individual I`m not any more important than any other consumer. I`m not alone though, my contention is that like minded people to myself have a significant impact as a group. If you want to disagree, cool, no need to be rude about it...

    D&D 5E 5E and the OGL

I've introduced 7 new people to RPGs in the last year, Pathfinder in particular along with a couple of my other favorites. While that number might pale in comparison to some people, I'd say it speaks pretty well to whether or not I'm helping out the hobby. And frankly I don't even consider...

    D&D 5E 5E and the OGL

This brings up another good point. Because game mechanics cannot be copyrighted, and because the OGL opened up so much of the terminology and content of D&D (that's what made all the retro-clones possible), it seems like the most intelligent thing to do would be embrace the situation, rather...

Time to bring back the prose?

The sacrifices that D&D would have to make flavor-wise to actually be a good effects based game would be such that it would no longer be recognizable as D&D.

Careful! Don't aggro the mods! Thanks folks, I'll be here all week.

    D&D 5E The Next Generation

This is pretty simple in my eyes. D&D should draw inspiration from many different sources, old and new. Let the game evolve, but at the same time don't try to brush where it came from under the rug. The fact of the matter is that a great deal of all of this is aesthetics, it's the window...

    "Aggro"

Mechanics that dictate behavioral decisions to the DM? Absolutely not. Mechanics that make attacking certain targets a better or worse idea? Okay with that, though implementation is important, there needs to be some player choice involved, not just by virtue of their characters mere...

    D&D 5E 5E and the OGL

The more devoted fans are the ones that drive the hobby. They're the ones that have the most influence with what games their groups play (especially since the most dedicated person at the table is probably the one running the games). They're the ones introducing new players to their game of...

    D&D 5E 5E and the OGL

It's perhaps unfair, but D&D is likely to be held to a different standard. The difference being WotC let the genie out of the bottle and set a bar and an expectation for themselves, those other companies did not. Yes, many people may never have even heard of the OGL, but I think that its...

Time to bring back the prose?

Because, frankly, perception does matter. It's not unlike a magic show without all the pomp and circumstance and none of the stage patter, the guy just standing there doing the tricks. The tricks might be just as good and clever but it won't be remotely as engaging. You're not just there for...

    D&D 5E 5E and the OGL

Does 5E need the OGL? I often wonder how much it impacted the success of 3E, and now I wonder if it would make the difference with 5E. It seems that it was a move that generated an immense amount of good will during 3E, and, thanks to the genie being out of the bottle, an immense amount of...
