WotC mistakes that cause you headaches -

OK, let me ask a slightly tangential question. What, if anything, would you consider "broken" in 3.5, sticking purely to the Core rules?

WotC mistakes that cause you headaches -

I would say that the broken parts are the Gate and the ability to do it all in less than one round without your opponent being able to react. Yes, you expend some xp and cash (although you could save on that by using Wall of Force) but you are getting back more xp and probably more cash then...

    pick your favorite race for...

Humans are certainly strong, quite possibly the strongest race for Wizard in the longer term. But during the low and mid level game Dwarves all the way. Extra Con and Saves are a major boost for Wizards. The skill point is good but Wizards are likely to have plenty in any event given Int as...

D&D 3E/3.5 Why do AoO's exist? Would it wreck 3.5 if I removed them from my game?

I dont recall any classes which have classabilities that rely on or use AoO particularly. However, there are a lot of feats that do just that. I think removing them will seriously crimp the already limited options available to melee based PC's. Especially the fighters whose class ability...

    pick your favorite race for...

Dwarf Wizard No level adjustment and therefore full casting availale. Increases Con, vital with those d4 HP Penalised Cha, essentially irrelevant to most of what you do Improved saves on things wizards are often weak on Darkvision, always handy Really, Dwarves just make excellent Wizards.

    Choosing sorcerer spells

For Will saves I tend to go with one of Charm Monster, Hold Person or Feeblemind. For Fortitude Baleful Polymorph is probably best although Blindness is ace at low level. Disintegrate, although a Fort spell is one I would always take, if only to get ris of annoying Wall of Force and...

    Choosing sorcerer spells

While I understand the attraction of running a themed sorceror and it is something I have done before in general I couldnt recommend doing it. The number of spells known will really punish someone who takes multiple different spells which all do fairly similar things. If you are happy doing...

My God, It's Full of Clones

How on earth is it metagamimg for a level 11 Wizard with an Int 24, a Knowledge: Arcane skill of 21 and a Knowledge: planes skill of 21 to use Planar Binding to conjure Efreets in order to obtain "pseudo"* free wishes. And what that has to do with motivation or personality is frankly beyond...

My God, It's Full of Clones

No, not at all. I make extensive use of House Rules when I run, mostly to patch up stuff that otherwise doesnt work or breaks the game. I also find that the more material I allow beyond the Core then the more I need to House Rule. I do however believe that NPC's should work on the same...

    Fighting "Mr. T"

OK, buffed to the gills but how did you actually take him down? Also, how did you keep him down?

WotC mistakes that cause you headaches -

Traditionally it involves layering a bunch of ongoing spell effects over an area in a minimal amount of time. Often these will involve some combination of Wall of Force/Force Cage and some means of preventing teleportation. Dimensional Anchor beforehand or Dimensional Lock during the...

    I Rolled a Double-Zero (100%)!

Merp and Rolemaster are probably the main games for these sort of moments. My most memorable is a Dwarven Warrior NPC crushing his own skull with his flail. The flail had, IIRC, an 8% chance of fumbling and caused a B crush crit to you if you did. I rolled 00, Merp and RM crit tables are...

    Gear Matters

Power, influence, titles, land, contacts, castles, princesses, feats, spells, levels, skills, charms, honour, money, position, authority, organisations, territory. Gear is only one of a many different "things" which a character may want and by no means necessarily the best. That can vary...

Is Eberron a dead world yet?

Aah, you mean like 3e. So much hysteria to such little effect.

Check this item please (revised, see post 13)

Its powerful but by no means game breaking. The magic item pricing systems in the books are very very wonky. Theres a huge difference between an item which provides unlimited use say of Polymorph and one of Detect Scrying. I would probably eye ball it at something like 180k. Its around the...

Is Eberron a dead world yet?

Greyhawk has been around as an official setting since 1e. FR for slightly less time. Darksun, Raveloft and Planescape still receive online support from other publishers. Even if we get a4e there is no reason to think that Eberron will be dropped. Sure, its divided opinion but then so does...

    Greybeards & Grognards 1

From your previous posts I know although that is perhaps a little extreme for me. I prefer a bit more crunch to my games.

My God, It's Full of Clones

I probably wouldnt have a huge issue with that (although I am not certain the Clone spell actually allows it but I dnt have my books handy). The issue with the Mirror is duplication of magical items, not people. Its a broken effect and if its under the control of a bad guy there is no reason...

AoW - one session to go.

Potential Spoiler Space .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. I will preface my remarks by saying that I havent actually seen the AoW adventure path and that my knowledge of it is based on an excellent write up in the Story Hour Forum. In that version Kyuss was basicly able to heal himself to full...

    Greybeards & Grognards 1

I would enjoy any OD&D game. It was my entry game into the hobby and I still have very fond memories of it. My experience doesnt quite go as far back as yours (we played the old Basic - Master set) but it is what hooked me into gaming.
