Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Sure, as long as its firmly black and white, this all makes sense. I don't think anyone's approach is as radical and player mojo-killing as is being discussed. Diplomacy isn't a spell in the first place. In a lot of games, mine included, saying you want to use Diplomacy on someone is met with...

    d30 for attack rolls

Theres no real difference. THAC0 just has AC going down. Plate mail is AC 3 in O/AD&D, and what, 17 in 3/PF. 3/PF has a lot more bonus inflation, so the remark has more to do with 1/2E specifically. I just like d30's. gotta use 'em for something....

Horror or Hell? Dracula or Lucifer? Ravenloft or Dante's Inferno?

Vampires are cool, though grossly overdone before the current Zombie fascination. But Hell is far more interesting to me. Hell and the Abyss has an enormous mythological depth and breadth to pull from, as well as entering into extraplanar travel. It is effectively many hundreds of worlds PCs...

Having Years in-game between adventures, Good/Stupid

cool ideas here i see this time passage device being good for a multiple round tournament also about goblin PCs - I like allowing any humaoid species for PC race, up to half-ogre in size. Players have a blast with it, and it adds a lot of different dynamics -

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Amusingly, in Dragonsfoot is a recent thread stating 1st level B/X mu's are "outrageously powerful". in addition to a style difference, I think this is all inherent to fantasy RPG.

    d30 for attack rolls

Hello PeoplesI happened across a post or blog somewhere talking about using d30's for attack rolls. Then last week, I read an interview with a 2E designer stating they wish they had lowered the THAC0s by 4. so, I thought about using d30's myself. As far as I can figure, it increases the hit...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

That's fine, but its within the context of 40 years or so of DMing being held as a structured art. Your "unnecessary kludge" is an established, essential part of D&D, not just the opinion of some. It is, in the end, a matter of degree, and we are fortunate to have such a wide range of...

Alignment violations and how to deal with them

Let the players have fun being evil, it can be a real blast. And just have them change their listed alignment. I don't think a penalty is necessary.

    Albany region, Open Edition D&D

Hello I am a poor choice for a PF DM, as I find the system way too crunchy, there are however PF Society events every month in Schenectady (and probably nearer to you), as well as an awesome convention coming up. http://www.swa-gaming.org/

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

I don't have a great knowledge of 3.5, but have played it. IF the base Cleric/Druid, without spell augmentation, can match a warrior's skill, the rules are indeed needing adjustment, as they usually are. Otherwise, who does the priest rely on while casting? Who do they rely on to get the rest...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Story effectiveness is not mechanical, and the classes are well balanced in terms of role. Class vs. Class is a can of worms, since they are meant to work together, for the most part. I think the underlying problem is more along the lines of overbearing players who happen to prefer spellcasters.

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Cyclone_Joker, your behavior here is immature. suffice it to say that IF you can play your favorite edition without needing to paint by the numbers, it can go a long way towards solving these sorts of problems, if your group is even having them. It also happens to be a vital element of playing...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Wow, could you condescend a little more? I don't think we're quite feeling it yet. Heh. Listen. It is quintessential to all forms of D&D that the rules are not designed to cover everything that can happen. It's also the DMs job to challenge the players, especially the munchkins who think they're...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Seriously? DM's don't make up their own monsters? If they do, it's because they suck? This is the quintessential nature of the game, friend. There aren't rules for every circumstance, and bringing that up is completely fair. Why it's not allowed in an internet discussion, I don't subscribe to.

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Your first question is absurd. WHY I would use such an example is the point you've missed - that millions of things NOT in the books are all fair game, in any edition, and the spellcaster that forgets that may have a shortened lifespan! As for this "Scent" ability you keep talking about, I've...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

What DM worth their salt would use a dragon writeup straight from a book is beyond me.

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

its obviously not old and tired to everyone, and participation is optional, so... i think the bottom line is, the underlying design of the 3 or 4 basic classes means any one of them is vulnerable alone. There really is no one, dominant class, its all in how you play them.

D&D 5E Ability Score Requeriments for Multiclassing, yay or nay?

To me, a lot depends on whether the 5th edition has a "Spirit of the Rules" paragraph, and bonus points if they use Gary's from his DMG. That one paragraph that gives the players the keys to the funhouse is what it's all about. There's probably an ancient dragon magazine forum or article...

D&D 5E Ability Score Requeriments for Multiclassing, yay or nay?

Thats one of my main oppositions. Any class or multiclass stat requirement forces all characters through a cookie cutter. Those requirements should be taken as suggestions only. As for my DMing, I did select "other requirement" - that being the class shifting must be roleplayed. I won't allow...

Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Whatever, Bob. Guess what, you never did memorize those spells. The party was attacked in the night by a pack of Moon Demons. The fighters and clerics were able stand their ground...Bob...fought valiantly... After recouping in town, they are able to hire a couple of wizards to serve as...
