rights and races (who is protected?)

Most governments IMC are LE or LN. The LE governments often kill (or enslave, or at least exile) any members of "enemy" races on sight. They may also give special rights to members of the dominant race, or basically do whatever they like with respect to race. Other governments are very...

    RPG.NET down [Again] ?

Yeah, it's been driving me crazy all morning. I guess I really am addicted! The Metallian

    bludgeoning arrows?

IIRC, the only Bludgeoning Arrows I'd seen (in a WotC supplement...probably the Arms & Equipment Guide, which was 3.0 AFAIK) only did subdual damage...no good against Skeletons or Clay Golems. (The reason I looked into this is because I was looking for creatures that couldn't be killed by a...

Is there any way around Uncanny Dodge?

Well, I don't really want to kill him (er, again), just put a scare into him. :D The Metallian

    Pass without Trace vs. Scent

Hmm, what about a Humanoid (as opposed to an Animal) with Scent? I'm getting kind of tired of him being able to detect everything, to be honest, and that probably subconsciously influenced my interpretation of Pass Without Trace. The Metallian

Is there any way around Uncanny Dodge?

Of course, my other motivation for making up a feat is because without a Feat that lets him Sneak Attack the Barbarian, the Assassin will get pasted by the Barbarian, just like all of my other NPCs. :D But, in the interest of not being cheesy, I can chalk it up to, "You were just really...

Is there any way around Uncanny Dodge?

Well, it specifically states that it works against Invisible attackers, and the attacker was Invisible, so I'm pretty much SOL unless I can find some Feat or something to justify it. (Not that anyone blames me too much...I'm always forgetting about my NPCs' abilities, to the PCs benefit. Only...

Is there any way around Uncanny Dodge?

So I screwed up tonight and had a Monk 9/Asn 8 with Improved Invisibility mess up the party Barbarian/Cleric with Shuriken and Sneak Attack. Since I've never really played a Barbarian or made an important Barbarian NPC, it didn't even cross my mind that it wouldn't work...I forgot that...

    Pass without Trace vs. Scent

That's what I ruled, if only because there is no other spell that could be interpreted as providing the equivalent of "Invisibility vs. Scent," so if PWT doesn't work that way, parties with access to scent will be able to detect nearly everybody within 30 feet all the time. The party for which I...

A Spell to lower Spell Resistance?

Yes, it's in Relics and Rituals. My wife's character has it on two scrolls, but she hasn't actually used it yet, so we're not sure if it's balanced or not. It's definitely powerful, but on the other hand it seems almost necessary at higher levels of play. (Especially if your primary offensive...

Improved Unarmed Strike and Weapon Finesse

Well, it's somethign I extrapolated from the following feats: Note that Unarmed Strike and Grapple constitute different instances of the feats...you apparently can't take Weapon Focus (Unarmed Strike) and apply it to Grappling (as my character had been doing as a house rule in our 3.0 game)...

Improved Unarmed Strike and Weapon Finesse

In 3.5, it seems to be the case that "Unarmed Strike" and "Grapple" are considered different weapons...at least that's how it seems to work for the purposes of Weapon Focus. (Random note - That sucks for my Monk character, because the DM had been house ruling Grappling so Weapon Focus - Unarmed...

How do we really want combat to be?

I think the feeling is that, if you die in the first round on a failed save, then you died because of bad luck. If you kill the enemy in one round with a failed save, then you won because of good luck. If the battle is won or lost primarily because of luck, a lot of people do not find it...

How do we really want combat to be?

One of the things I enjoy the most about combat is trying to do "cunning and clever" things to give allies and advantage and enemies a disadvantage: - Seek higher ground for a higher ground bonus - Alter the landscape to impede/entangle an enemy - Get into a better position to strike a blow or...

    Effective Gnome Artificer?

Detect Undead? Just last night we were ooing and aahing over the possibility of building a PKE Meter for D&D! :D Making it a spell kind of renders a gun pretty poor as a weapon, however...no iterative attacks, no Point Blank Shot, no Sneak Attack (unless it's a ray), etc. I was thinking if he...

    Effective Gnome Artificer?

What if I let him create modern firearm equivalents that required maintenance that only a dedicated Alchemist/Weaponsmith could hope to deal with? (DC 25 Craft (Alchemy) and DC 25 Craft (Weaponsmithing) checks every day...a 7th-level Gnome with a high Int could take 10 and succeed every day.)...

    Feat for speedy crafting

    1) How did you get the increased crafting speed? 2) Do you have any suggestions for someone who wants to play this type of character? Is the "techie/equipment guy" pretty much a lost cause in D&D? The Metallian

    Effective Gnome Artificer?

Well, a support character is what this party needs...we already have 2 front-line fighters, 1 Cleric (the front-line fighters are a Paladin and a Barbarian/Cleric so we've got oddles of divine stuff), a sneaky Psionicist, a sneaky Rogue/Fighter type, and a Wizard. So I was thinking that a Gnome...
