I plan on picking this up as well. It seems that you could have a wealth of stories just on one world alone, and can range from terribly dark (Eox) to fun planetary romps on Akiton and Castrovel.

I think that you are right in that casual gamers are the target audience. I would suspect that they hope to capture at least some of the 3E and 4E crowd, but those may be very hard sells. From what I have read here and elsewhere, many of the 3E crowd has moved on to other games or are holding...

Possibly Hasbro might think that WotC could dramatically increase the value of the Dungeons and Dragon brand, and may try to include peripheral products -- board games, books, toys and other merchandise -- into their calculations for the potential size of the brand.
