Wow, you all must not be seeing the same stuff on TV that I have. Have you not seen all of the amazing new scripted shows that have shown up in the past few years? Lost, Heroes, and Battlestar Galactica - I won't miss an episode. Heck BSG is why I have DVR. And there are plenty more out there...

If he does things like that all the time tell the noob DM that it's time to step aside and you're going to show him how "the big boys and girls" run a game. The PCs are the stars of the game, only sharing the spotlight with each other and their adversaries.

Yes, and I'd probably throw a save penalty for the Fireball to anyone actually stuck in the web due to their inability to move. Probably -2 or just loss of dex bonus.

My guess is money. Rather less to be paid out for something already recorded. And possibly ease of programming. But either way it's $$$.

I thought MMIV was crap. My FLGS thought it was crap. And he'd heard the same from plenty of others. I won't waste my money on MMV if it is MMIV mark II.

That's why DMs have the power - they can say no. I have a group with a warmage and a wizard. The rules, depending on how you read them, allow for the two of them to get together and scribe a scroll for every spell in the warmage's repertoire, then the wizard can scribe them into her spellbook...

If there's a good reason for a DMPC, then by all means go for it. But if the DM wants a PC in his game, then he needs to decide if he's a DM or a player and then accept that role. Beyond that, the amount of time a DM spends working on his DMPC can be put to better use making the adventure...

I believe so. Fluid did the original design, but put a poor product out and lost the license. Then CMP got it and did a lot better. I'm sure the actual legal fun is even more complicated...

That's the lack of sunlight. Take some vitamin D and go to a tanning booth ;) Or take up a lot of drinking, but that's only a temporary solution. But luckily the grey is temporary too :D
