D&D (2024) Pact Of Chain Warlock is really powerful now.

This is hyperbole; there is a fair amount of space between a DM enforcing material component costs and "tracking every last copper in a game." Material component costs are a balancing feature that are there for a reason; it's not punishing players to require a caster to acquire them. Securing a...

D&D (2024) Pact Of Chain Warlock is really powerful now.

Be sure to enforce the 10gp/use material component cost. It may not seem like much, but it helps prevent the spam-cast approach to using the familiar at the lower levels. It's definitely powerful at first level, but becomes less so over time.

    D&D (2024) Warcaster Cheesy Fondue 2024

That seems like a stretch. The entire passage quoted by Sulicius is the rule. The words "foe" or "enemy" are used four times. The intent of the rule seems obvious to me, but I'll add this to my House Rules list, just in case any of my players are ENWorld legalists.

D&D (2024) Polymorph temp hp remain

While I personally agree with UngeheuerLich's reading of the rules in question, I can see where the other interpretations could be valid as well. I suspect that this will be clarified in errata, but based on this discussion I have already drafted the following house rule for my table: For...

D&D (2024) Polymorph temp hp remain

Agreed, the spell description is more specific than the general rule. Reading it otherwise would make polymorph, a fourth level spell, superior to power word fortify, a seventh level spell, and would make an edge case superior to the actual intended use of the spell. I'm sure we'll see an errata...

Critical Role Is Critical Role Scripted (behind the scenes)

If you look at how the ads at the start and the announcements bits generally go (which are scripted), that should dispel any notions that they're working off a script for the game.

    D&D (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

3700 physical sales is probably off by an order of magnitude if not more. The Sacramento area has about 2 million people, which means its share of that number would be around 22 books. In my FLGS alone, which is one of about a dozen game stores within that area, I saw about 50 books just in the...

D&D General Of Consent, Session 0 and Hard Decisions.

I don't use safety forms but I do hold a Session Zero for each of my games where I have a discussion of my table norms and invite player feedback/additions. I also use Discord and encourage players to contact me independently if they have issues with another player or the content of the game...

Worlds of Design: Why Buy Adventures?

I selected 1-5, although it's close to the upper end because I bought a WotC adventure bundle for Fantasy Grounds when it was on sale a few years back. I only have four of the adventure/campaign books in hardcover. Been playing 5e for about five years now. Like most here, I use published...

    D&D (2024) Backgrounds

I was never bothered by racial ability score bonuses in 5e, and am not really bothered by the limitations expressed in the default 2024 PH backgrounds, but then again I tend to focus on the character's story more than the mechanics while building characters. I've read a lot of these threads, and...

Dungeons & Dragons 2024 Player's Handbook Officially on Sale Today

I already have my copies (both hardcore and digital for Fantasy Grounds), but I stopped by a Barnes & Noble today and they did not have any out.

D&D (2024) 2024 D&D: now available for the rest of us

I got my hardcover copy (alt cover) early through my FLGS without any problems. Fantasy Grounds will be posting the new book "around mid day Eastern Standard Time." They have an FAQ about the implementation of the new ruleset at D&D 2024 Rules Update and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).

D&D General Stuff 5E Did Right

It got me playing D&D again, after a 15-year hiatus. I had been playing in a 3e game for a while but lost interest; combats were slow and nothing much seemed to happen (this was about 7th-8th level IIRC). I bought the 4e books and read them but never felt any desire to play. After finally buying...

D&D General Starter vs Essentials vs Stormwreck Isle

Just following the step-by-step instructions for the DM (who remember might be a novice, given that this is the Starter Set) provided in the module, the goblins will gain surprise a lot of the time (+6 to Stealth, compared to passive Perception of the party, which for first level characters will...

D&D General Starter vs Essentials vs Stormwreck Isle

I enjoyed Icespire, but I would not recommend it to a new DM or new players. Some of the starter mission options are absolutely lethal to first level characters, especially if players don't know which tactics to use (e.g., the ochre jellies, the manticore). Some of the middle quests are also...

D&D (2024) How many combats do you have on average adventuring day.

I put 5 as an average. Like many posters here I have many sessions where it's just 1-2 (typically while traveling to or from the main location for the adventure). In dungeons the number is typically higher, within the recommended 6-8 encounters, and for boss encounters/adventure finales I'll...

    D&D (2024) Predictions for the 2024 DMG?

I think there will be some discussion of how to adjudicate the various skills in the game, since most of that information was removed from the Player's Handbook in favor of a brief summary table. I'm hoping that this will include some guidance that clarifies the use of stealth and hiding in a...

WizKids Announces Builders of Baldur's Gate, a New D&D Board Game

I played the hell out of the digital version of Lords of Waterdeep. Will keep an eye on this one.

    D&D (2024) Spirt Guardians

When dragging your speed is reduced to 5, which would seem to neutralize the effectiveness of the tactic (see "Carrying Capacity," 2024 PH p.363).

    D&D (2024) Spirt Guardians

I am not sure I understand your point. Are you saying that the Carrying Capacity rules don't apply to grappled targets? So a character with 8 Str can grab an armored orog and run him around (at full speed, if they have the Grappler feat)? EDIT: I will note that the Grappled Condition...
