GMing Mistakes You’ve Made in the Past

Ah yes the "common sense statistics", I suppose? I gamed with plenty of couples where both of them were gamers, or where the invited SO wasn't a gamer but was still totally OK to play with the others for a session or more. In fact, in the last few years I have been almost always gamed with my...

D&D 5E What If Everyone Could Use Scrolls? (House rule)

I think it's fine. There won't be much abuse if you control how many scrolls they can acquire, just don't make them craft their own.

D&D General How would you make "finding out how to break the spell" interesting?

It depends on your players' tastes, some people are just fine with killing an extra monsters to get the specific ingredient/item. Personally I'd rather try to make it more narrative, as the game already have plenty of combat anyway anytime you want, but having good narratives is more rare. I...

RPG Evolution: The New Miniature Era

I think your review is a bit too D&D centric. Indeed the Wildspire minis are marketed as "DnD compatible" which IMHO sounds like a marketing ploy (are there even some fantasy minis which are "incompatible" with DnD, considering that 5e even has firearms rules?) so if they attract criticism for...

    Let's Talk About Short Campaigns

For me to call something an "RPG campaign", it needs multiple story arcs and finish lines, whether they run in a series or in parallel. Boundaries are blurry, but for me none of WotC modules are campaigns, but just long adventures. More specifically, "long" for players but short for characters...

    D&D General 1e feel for 5E

It's quite difficult to do such exercise because "feel" is different for different people. For me, the two biggest feel factors are character classes and combat rules. But I think for you it might be everything else. So if you use 1e classes and 1e combat rules, am I playing 5e with 1e feel...

How many years does it take for an RPG to become nostalgic, for you?

Simple answer for simple question: 20 years. That is a rough rounded number that I noticed it often works for me an all medias (movies, music, games...).

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

I hear you... There are probably going to be similar problems everywhere, for example in music. It won't be difficult in the near future to dynamically create "on the fly" songs generated and performed by AI, given a prompt in the form of song's topic, genre, mood, sound etc. Then probably...

D&D General How much do you care about rule change specifics?

Yes. I prefer the clarity and honesty of a new edition. Whether I would like such edition or not is another matter. I detest the idea of "patching" an edition.

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

Interesting topic... considering that we can use AI to generate RPG content for our own use, if publishers are now going to use AI too then the question becomes, why would we still need publishers?

How Much Do You Care About Novelty?

I value novelty a lot in passive fiction (books, movies, music), but in an active game I don't think I need much of it.

    D&D (2024) Reworking the 2024 Hiding rules

Maybe because it's an action defined under "actions in combat", and otherwise mentioned only either in combat or chase situations?

    D&D (2024) Reworking the 2024 Hiding rules

Is that your own idea? Because they're not necessarily intended to be exactly the same across editions. There is, if you want to. Sneak attack requires advantage on the attack. It doesn't require to be hidden, even though being hidden grants advantage. Out of combat, I'd ask the player what...

    D&D (2024) Reworking the 2024 Hiding rules

The funny thing is that not even "invisible" is fully uber... if you stand on muddy ground, sand, high grass or water, you are invisibile as transparent but not as hidden as you may want, especially in combat when you keep moving.

    D&D (2024) Reworking the 2024 Hiding rules

I do not think there is any such thing as "how it's intended to work" :) The rules are the result of the designers trying to bring together a bunch* of different things that they expect to come up in gameplay, and provide some rules just because people want rules, but also provide ample...

D&D General Read aloud text in modules: What are folks opinions about read aloud content?

It is helpful for DMs to kick-off an adventure, scene or even a new room in a dungeon. Many DMs are good enough to do this with their own words but others are terrible. Anything that helps is a good thing. Getting the length right is the key (and that applies also to a DM's own words): long...

Necessity of a Social Negotiation System? – When Should It Be Relevant?

I think you are looking at it from a wrong perspective. You are trying to compare between using rules and using narrative (i.e. roleplaying) to resolve a situation, depending on how important the situation is. But the choice is completely independent from the importance. The choice depends on...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

There are several potentially exhausting things in RPGing. While you might find resistance to change exhausting, someone else might find it exhausting to be socially pressured into change. Personally I find it exhausting to keep hearing people constantly unsatisfied by what they have to play...

    Creating better factions

I was just gonna say the same... It's not wrong to have realistic factions but the downside could be sameness. My usual preference is actually organized religions, for me they make the best factions because they can have wacky over-the-top borderline purposes (I mean... Ghaunadaur?) with...

    Will AI replace Dungeon Masters?

I thought the same thing. And sadly, even I find myself sometimes wondering... should I ask a question on ENWorld where most of the answers will be off-topic, promoting someone else's agenda, or attacking the premise of my own thread? At least AI so far generally tries to answer the questions...
