Using Spore's creature creator to model homebrew monsters!

Just pick the eye and put your mouse over it and then scroll the wheel?

    D&D 4E D&D 4E Tips/Tricks/Advice

Read the dragon's powers carefully prior to running it so there's no confusion there in the Hall. KotS can be a real tough fight, especially the Irontooth fight. If your'e players aren't 'up to par' by the time you get to Irontooth scale back on the waves, have them show up slower or remove a...

Our First Game -- What some non-RPG fans Learned that they want to share!

As a suggestion for hit points, use poker chips split in half white and red? Player always removes white ones first, when he's 'in the red' he's bloodied. And they stack pretty easily. And players have fun fondling them for some reason.

Looking for a Monster "assassination" power

Quick thought but have the cloud minds power give it CA and then simply give it xDx extra damage for combat advantage and call it Backstab or whatever? Lots of monsters have that and it doesn't require anything odd.

    Guenhwyvar as an artifact

For the purposes you want them for they seem fine to me and are certainly more interesting than a DMNPC.

    Please critique these tactical powers

Actually there's a house rule class out there that has a power like suppression fighter, I forget the name of the class, I'll search my site and dig it out. The concept of the class was a controller who controls zones to help control monsters. Jump back at first look doesn't seem too bad but...

    Total Classes Released by 2009

There are a few versions of Druid out there, which surprises me as I've never had a player use the class, as well as a decent bard class. Here, I collected some links earlier last week with the more complete options: http://www.keyourcars.com/2008/08/06/new-class-monk/

    Active Perception House Rules

Interesting. I might have to give that a test and see how it plays out. Although for veracity's sake I'd probably roll it at the start of their watch to see how well they slept and add or subtract 5 for a established camp site or simply rolling up in a blanket on rocky ground.

Crazy Idea: Using the Disease Track for Skill Challenges

I've done a few playtests, theoretical not 'in game' and it does work although I'm not sure as I get more involved in the skill system if I don't think the entire concept, Skill Challenges themselves, not the math system under them, might need a face lift and some liposuction. I think after...

Where can I find this monster template?

You can get the monster maker from www.asmor.com under scripts and programs as one possible source. It lets you build your monster although it doesn't do any math for you other than figuring BLoodied value. And then you can save your mosnter for future work as well as export it as a html file.

    Scaffolding for Large Constructs

I'd say drop the XP by probably 30-40% since you're only fighting 'half the monster' as it were but that other half its still got its full compliment of powers. I'd change one or more of the powers to one shot. Perhaps have a 'double attack' power work once but then one of hte arms falls off...

    Minion Death Modification

I do something similar to the OP but I add a damage threshold. My players thought 'minions are dumb, I feel like I'm fighting the goblin children". So I came up with a middle ground that seems to work for us. YMMV as always. I left minions alone and still use them mixed in with the new...

Crazy Idea: Using the Disease Track for Skill Challenges

In terms of scaling to party size, I'd simply remove one position on the track per missing player. For your example of 3 PC's then make it a 7 position track. That gives them a chance to succeed in one round if they all take a role as primary and they'll have 6 shots in two rounds. In...

Crazy Idea: Using the Disease Track for Skill Challenges

Okay made some changes for what it's worth. Math could be completely off for all I know but it looks okay. Of course the original official skill challenge system probably looked alright at first glance too... http://www.keyourcars.com/2008/08/04/scads-update/ There's a pdf there.

    New Goblin: Goblin Fleshraiser

Heh, I love that idea. The zomblins 'die' so fast because they're rotting at an incredible rate which is genreating the power they need to move around so the internal gases build and the zomblin explodes for say close burst 1; +5 vs Reflex; 3 points of damage. All creatures in burst take damage.

Crazy Idea: Using the Disease Track for Skill Challenges

Thanks but still alpha. I'm going to rewrite a bit to make it more like the actual disease layout, I actually just read that this morning and then generate some random d20's (breaking out a set of d20's and rolling them at desk would be a sure way to draw some attention but maybe not the right...

Crazy Idea: Using the Disease Track for Skill Challenges

*smacks forehead* For some reason I was stuck with the idea that the challenge HAD to go the full time limit and must end on a full round. Most likely it was because of the example scenario I came up with which I envisioned as simply requiring X amount of time to either succeed or fail...

Crazy Idea: Using the Disease Track for Skill Challenges

Okay I've been considering this this evening http://www.keyourcars.com/2008/08/02/yet-another-skill-challenge-system/ and in my putting details to paper this has some points for consideration. With a limited ebb and flow on the challenge track more than a couple of rounds become pointless or...

    D&D 4E Reflavoring 4E

I'll offer some support for the 'free' skill focus. Grant each class a free skill focus but only applicable for what you feel are the skills that the class should excel in or simply one free skill focus to any of the skills that the class starts trained in if you don't want to have make more...
