    Calimshan Campagin: The Paladin's Tomb

I immediately saw a fun trap where the party is in a sealed room that is filling with sand. Then have some sort of a creature (earth/sand elemental?) attacking them, getting stronger as the sand fills the room while the party has a harder and harder time moving around.

    Goblin Treasure

Yep. I'll do "cheap" weapons that do -1 damage. Also I'm running my PF game in Eberron and there the magic item creation is a near monopoly by the Dragonmarked Houses. To put a mechanical touch on why they have that monopoly I have a house rule that says that any magic item or service not done...

    Adjusting encounters for more players

I tend to do the adjustments in a less scientific manner. Mainly, I increase the HPs of the creatures, from 50% of max to 75% or even 100%. This allows them to stick around longer in the fight without making them exponentially more lethal. Adding levels/hit dice can also really affect their...

XP: When and how do you decide the value of an encounter?

For years I've done XP after the fact since I'll change the encounter design on the fly to account for missing players or circumstances. Then I'd punch the numbers into the encounter calculator on d20srd.org and then make any adjustments necessary. These days I'm trying to build encounters...

    Paladin Treasure

Yep, if I was the DM I'd be in total favor of that. Set up the amounts required well ahead of time so there is no question and make sure it is all being properly tracked, but I wouldn't mind a bit.

List all of your character names! *read the instructions*

This is what I can think of off of the top of my head... Atlas, male, human (hey, I was 12, best I could do!) Grymar, male, elf Berek Longlance, male, human (still, just 12 years old :)) Tripwire, male, warforged Malhabrim, male, human Astanguard Holastim, male, elf Qan Yanchanchinki, male...

    Crossing a Bridge

The rope is old and starts breaking. It starts to break after 300lbs is on it (or whatever number you need)...the party has one round to get across before it snaps. A wall of enemies line up at the end of the bridge behind a shield wall, trying to keep the players on the bridge while others...

    What setting are you using?

Can I ask what you picked? I thought about dropping in the d20 Psionic rules, but decided that it was cleaner to just ignore them for now. The big question is about the Artificer...did you make your own class? Convert the d20 version?

Would you subscribe to DDI if it supported older editions?

For the most part, my answer is "no," however I would look at a Paizo/Pathfinder version and consider it. I would still be 70/30 against any subscription, but I wouldn't reject it outright.

    What setting are you using?

I'm using Pathfinder in Eberron and it works pretty well. The only other things I've added are Action Points, three races (warforged, shifters, changelings), and most of the Eberron feats.

    Encouraging Player Curiousity

Try making a short newspaper, it worked for my group. The key is to get them involved in the setting by included them in the world. Let them know that they are making a change while getting them to read about the rest of the setting. Main Article - Some world event that doesn't directly involve...

    Critical Hit additional effects?

Yeah, I'm going to try the Critical Hit deck this Friday for the first time. I like the idea and I hope it holds up in practice. I'm using Pathfinder though, so it takes very little conversion. The only thing I'm changing is that the player will not draw multiple cards for a high mulitplyer...

[Edit: EN World is gonna change! If you want your say, you're running out of time!]

Most companies will use a service like Websense or SurfControl. At these companies they have massive teams that look at websites and categorize them, or participating companies can submit a website and categorization recommendation. Plus someone within the company can always make a custom...

[Edit: EN World is gonna change! If you want your say, you're running out of time!]

Sounds cool! I do hope that it doesn't hurt if you don't have any "friends". It tends to punish lurkers like me. : )

What a great storytelling DM looks like

Many in this thread seem to be pointing to an either/or sort of situation. It's either old-school/sandbox OR it is new-school/railroad. The campaigns I am most familiar with, my own, are more of a blend. Between sessions, it is very nearly a sandbox. We use email to discuss plans, options, and...

How much do you suppose it costs to develop and maintain DDI?

Exactly. When I saw that $2 million figure, I was shocked at how low that was. High end operating system and database tools can alone cost in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. They have to have 20 to 50 servers at the low end ($5k to $10k each) and very high bandwidth costs. I work in a...

Has the horse left the barn?

No, not interested. First off, I'm so disconnected from 4e that I didn't know that there was already a third (!) phb out, nor do I know what the basic rules or the hybrid multiclasses are. 4e just isn't interesting to me. Certainly not to run. My gaming dollars are going to Pathfinder and...

The campaign's final battle - what do you do?

Some great ideas here. I just finished an Eberron Dhakanni campaign (Goblinoid PCs) where they were trying to get their small clan to take the throne of Darguun. In what I knew was the final battle, three armies were facing off with the PCs holding an epic weapon that could destroy the enemy...

    Bestiary Gripe

My gripe... I haven't had a chance to go through the book in detail, but it looks like there are no longer lines for Attack vs Full Attack, just a list of attacks. For instance: Gargoyle - Melee 2 claws +7 (1d6+2), bite +7 (1d4+2), gore +7 (1d4+2) So is a single attack one claw? Why...
