    [OSRIC] v1.01 release date

Actually, there are several schemes of software versioning. Some of the common ones include major release numbers, minor release numbers, and patches. If I had my way, books and other documents would never be given versions after the manner of software at all. However, OSRIC is already doing...

    [OSRIC] v1.01 release date

Hmm. Given the immense amount of stuff that's being added to OSRIC, wouldn't an increment greater than +.01 be in order?

    I've never played AD&D1

Eh. Since everyone here is saying they didn't use all the rules anyway, what difference does it make if the new books spell it out for you?

    I've never played AD&D1

Actually, I (the name Stormcrow wasn't available here) said that if you kill the rule that says attacks against spell casters come on that round indicated by the opponent's or their own initiative die score, then the initiative rules are a coherent whole. The key is to understand them as...

Stepping over "The Line" in a campaign

The Rune RPG, based on the Rune video game, allows you to "save" your character by making a backup copy of the character sheet. It's called death insurance.

    History: OD&D to AD&D 1st edition

    Quite right!

    History: OD&D to AD&D 1st edition

I fail to see how your reply relates to my statement which you quoted. DDG isn't meant to add verisimilitude to the game. It's meant to add deities to a game that makes great use of them.

    History: OD&D to AD&D 1st edition

Fortunately, the AD&D books never say this.

    History: OD&D to AD&D 1st edition

Gary repeats this in the Foreward to Deities & Demigods: "DEITIES & DEMIGODS is an indispensible part of the whole of AD&D. Do not fall into the error of regarding it as a supplement. It is integral to Dungeon Mastering a true AD&D campaign." Just as the Monster Manual answered the question...

Is the AD&D 1E Revival here to stay?

Role "immersion" was never a design goal of the original D&D creators. D&D is a board game where the "board" and "pieces" are in your imagination, and your "move" can be anything you can think of. Just as you don't question why you can't change directions in Monopoly, you need not question any...

    d20 B.C.

Land of Og is pure comedy, not to be played as a serious game (and it's not d20). Each player's caveman knows only one word to begin with, and may only communicate with that one word—and most players don't start with the same word. I've run a game of Land of Og; it was one of the funniest games...

    OSRIC -- update

That explains it, then. No, I never saw the controversial picture.

    OSRIC -- update

It doesn't ring a bell. Which issue?

    OSRIC -- update

I find it difficult to imagine hobbits gathering in a stone ring at midnight to perform sacrifices with bloody knives! Still, druids "can be visualized as medieval cousins of what the ancient Celtic sect of Druids would have become had it survived the Roman conquest" (Players Handbook, p. 21)...

[EDITION WARZ] Selling Out D&D's Soul?

Let us not forget that one of the challenges of a good RPG is for the players to figure out when they are outclassed. All encounters should not have a measured level of wealth. A party should not waste its time on typical wandering monsters; these are to be avoided because fighting them is...

    D&D 4E 1st time back in a while - 4E?????

Paranoia XP already did that. Microsoft made them take the XP out of the title on the cover after Service Pack 1 came out. I suggested the title "Installation History" for the book that reprinted classic adventures, but they wanted "Flashbacks" instead.

Can someone explain races being classes?

It's just a name. If instead of "dwarf" they'd called it "dwarf fighter," you wouldn't have a question about it. Notice that the level titles are those of the fighter with "Dwarven" before them. Likewise for the other classes.

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Now, look Gary, that's exactly what BluSponge is talking about. That's just too darn vague. Is that a new ability list, a command to do more, a complaint, or your verbal response? C'mon, you can do better! ;)

You ignored his Don't Walk on the Grass signs. Isn't that enough? :D
