    Dragon Article: To Live Defeated

Heh, I find it amusing that the main option I'm offering my players along these lines is enslaving their enemies, either for sale or other purposes, and it's not even mentioned in the article. Slavers are a common feature in almost every D&D setting, particularly Dark Sun.

Player challenging DM authority and competative

This is a terrible idea. If the player is genuinely turning everything into a competition, then it's only going to make him angrier and more uncooperative, simultaneously making the DM in question look petty and vindictive. If the problem is solvable now, it wouldn't be after this sort of...

    The Bard's Melee Weapon powers

A player in my group has been looking at this the very same way - he's going to be playing a bard in our Dark Sun game, and he ended up deciding to focus heavily on his ranged powers. Not a bad thing given the composition of our group, but yeah. Personally, I think bards are pretty well-suited...

Player challenging DM authority and competative

Try offering to let him play a new character, but not one that overlaps so heavily with another player's? That way you might be able to avoid some of the competitiveness while he can switch away from a character he apparently didn't like?

Is the Online CB Working Well Now?

I haven't had *too* many issues with it. The biggest thing for me is that some equipment is missing or not working properly - the shaman Totemic spear for example is only applying to regular spears, not longspears of greatspears which is particularly frustrating for one player in my group.

    Persistent Harrier

It's actually happening a few times per encounter - we've got a ranger in the group and his Disruptive Strike keeps getting disrupted (hurr hurr) because of this as well. Anyways, thanks all for the help. Hopefully I can convince the DM to see reason in this case, since the more I think about...

    Persistent Harrier

The DM Guide suggests grouping identical monsters together for the purpose of attack, movement etcetera to save time. Problem is it frequently gets in the way of these sorts of abilities. You end up with two or three monsters working on the same initiative roll and the DM in this case insists on...

    Persistent Harrier

Had a discussion with my DM the other day about the battlemind's Persistent Harrier class feature. Persistent Harrier Battlemind Feature You slip the bonds of space to strike back at even a distant opponent...

    D&D 4E [4E] Barbarian build advice?

If you're concerned about your defenses, you might consider retraining Goliath Greatweapon Expertise into Urgrosh proficiency. It'll improve your AC a tad without seriously impacting your damage. Grab Axe Expertise at a later level and it's effectively brutal 1, not to mention the +1 to attack...

    Dark Sun + Essentials interaction

Wizards has indicated that they're going to add themes for other campaign settings (through Dragon Magazine and such presumably, if not new books regarding them), so really I don't see the conflict. Themes remain an optional third-pillar of character creation, to be used as a given DM sees fit.

    I killed a character, twice!

This is true, but only to an extent. At some point 'fixing' encounters in the favor of the players can be very immersion-breaking, because at any given time a player expects certain behavior from monsters. If the immersion is broken by a DM deliberately and obviously using bad tactics, fun goes...
