Stupid CB question: selecting a theme?

If you go into "Manage Character" there's a checkbox for Dark Sun rules, this allows the selection of one of the Dark Sun themes for characters under any other campaign type (and a psionic cantrip). Both come up as optional, so it won't prompt you to pick them even after hitting the checkbox...

    Is this unfair?

I don't know, some diseases are fun, depending on the character. My dragonborn battlemind likes to Persistent Harrier into the middle of everything right at the beginning of the fight, and reaching stage 3 of moon frenzy almost doubled his damage output.

    Surprisingly Effective Hybrids

Had a player in my group who tried an Avenger/Shaman combo... It didn't quite work, but every so often seemed like it might. Could be worth looking at, with some optimization.

Dragon 400: Born of Shadow Themes

Very interesting themes, probably my favorites out of the new-style themes in general.

    Your Ideal Edition of D&D

So you want Essentials with no feats and mindless combat? Personally, I'd like the opposite. Let people choose a feat at each level to lessen the impact of choosing less powerful ones, make multiclassing less restrictive (remove power swap feats, just let MC characters choose their powers from...

Rule of Three 6/13/2011: "semi-obscure but flavorful setting" in Dungeon and Dragon

Given the Elemental handbook coming up, I'm inclined to think it's Al Qadim. I'm pretty happy about that, too - it's not too dissimilar from Dark Sun, and the overlap would benefit both settings.

MV: Threats to the Nentir Vale in my hands

Very curious about Blackfang Gnolls and the Mooncalf.

    Essentials multiclassing playtest?

I was probably reading too much into the part that says "Choose a pact" rather than the explanation thereof. It was pretty late and I was trying desperately to find something awesome in an otherwise wholly disappointing article.

    Essentials multiclassing playtest?

The pact blade at-wills can be used as MBA's though, which to me would imply that Attack Finesse would function as normal for them. It's kinda like how Bracers of Mighty Striking still provide a +2 damage bonus to the pact blade at-wills.

    Essentials multiclassing playtest?

Not sure if this works, but... Executioner takes Pact Initiate (Warlock MC feat) and chooses a pact, then takes Pact Blade Manifestation from the article, and ends up getting a sweet MBA replacement that uses DEX thanks to the Executioner class feature, and qualifies for Cursed Shadow at the...

    Essentials multiclassing playtest?

That's likely because as a hybrid it's one step closer to being a theme, which it should have been from the start.

    Essentials multiclassing playtest?

The assassin options are terrible. They had a chance to improve both the executioner and the oassassin here, and they failed badly. The only really solid thing about them is that they are, in fact, new feats, which means there's still support for feats (I'd been wondering, given that the...

Is the Executioner underpowered, not a striker or both? (or am I missing something?)

Another nice thing about the executioner (Red Scales at least) is that where damage is concerned they're nearly as effective at range as they are in melee, which gives them nice versatility. I'm playing one in our Eberron group and the ability to switch from range to melee depending on the...

    Playtest: Warlock Updates

I'm just glad they didn't change the name of the class. "Catamite" doesn't roll off the tongue so well as "Warlock".

    Elemental Hero' Handbook

None of them jump out at me as definite wizard builds, and I have to admit the idea of an elemental cleric appeals to me greatly for my Dark Sun game. In general, this pleases me because of the expansion it grants that setting.

Help me make a 12th level leader (or defender)

I'd probably go with a paladin, and burn a feat to multiclass into warlord or some such for the extra heal.

    Email Recaps-Good or bad idea?

Our group recently started doing recaps, and while the players who were in attendance are somewhat meh about them, everybody agrees that when they miss a session the recaps are very helpful.

D&D 4E D&D 4E: Who can use poisons and how often?

There are a number of poisons anybody can use, but on the whole they're rather underwhelming. The Executioner's are better, but still not really on the level of daily powers, which is what they replace.

    Heroes of the Feywild Speculation

The thing about Essentials that bothers me, really, is that they're being repeatedly called "builds" but presented as classes. There's a "build" option in the character builder - if these were actually builds, why not stick them in there and let the pre-E classes select features and the like...

Final Character Theme Article Up: Heroes for Hire

None of these new themes have really jumped out at me, to be totally honest. I thought the Dark Sun themes were much more flavorful and broadly more useful as well. Strange how much difference the switch from an attack power swap to a utility power swap can make.
