How do we really want combat to be?

and These ideas, in my mind, seem to contradict one another. The usual effect I see of a save or die effect is to take a creature out quickly, thus robbing them of the opportunity of being heroic. Sure, without "save or die" spells, a character will likely stay alive for several rounds, but...

    Getting Attached

Now I'll be serious. I think an ideal gaming situation is where characters do get attached to their characters and GMs are actively working to kill your character. That doesn't mean the threat of death isn't there, just that the mortality rate isn't all that high. I consider my a low mortality...

TV Show for Gamers and Roleplayers

You've got my vote (Though the site is a pain to vote on). You're up against all sorts of bad reality TV, which seems to be the in thing nowadays. Best of luck. Werner

top 25 reasons you started playing d+d again

    18. Because the books on your shelf told you too. 19. Because it's not just for satanists anymore :p 20. Because sitting in the board room reminds you too much of your days in high school. 21. Because there are too many young "whipper-snappers" who think CCG or CRPG's are the end all, be all...

[Dungeon] Which TSR Modules are "Classics"?

I'll weigh in with X1 Isle of Dread S3 Expedition to Barriar Peaks (I still remember suffering my group through it in 6th grade... this adventure wasn't meant for 6th graders... ) And the entire of Desert of Desolation series was pure gold. Another one I had fun with was Lich Lords by...

Info on upcoming S&SS/Scarred Lands Releases!

Well, if I had my way (which I rarely do), Dragons would exist as powerful but rare entities throughout the Scarred Lands. At one time, they might was supreme as can be witnessed in the Histories of Termana and Ghelspad, but their time has waned. For me, Dragons opted out of the divine war...

Info on upcoming S&SS/Scarred Lands Releases!

I'd agree trickstergod. SLCS: Ghelspad (and to a limited extent the gazateer) offered to the Scarred Lands the ability to see the campaign setting, and I'll be honest, I felt like I couldn't run the scarred lands before that. That didn't really happen so much with Termana and so, in many ways...

Info on upcoming S&SS/Scarred Lands Releases!

From what I recall at the D*C panel, Termana isn't running far behind but they've been having problems with their printers. I think it's planned right now at the tail end of this month. Asaatthi has been pushed back to November IIRC. This is honestly one of the better books I've seen recently...

Player's Guide to Paladins and Monks: Prestige Class Preview

Seconded... The original release schedule (or, to say, the original revised release schedule) was to have Wizards, Bards, & Sorcerers and Fighters & Barbarians in late July; Clerics & Druids and Rangers & Rogues in late August and Monks & Paladins in late September. Now, convention season will...

Player's Guide to Paladins and Monks: Prestige Class Preview

Not to be argumentative or anything, but have you looked at either of the books that have come out. Each Prestige Class has a little blurb on how to use the class in a more generic setting. Because I'm not above a little copyright infringement, here are some examples. Archer of the Steppes...

    Creature Collection Revised Opinions?

I'd agree with you, Psion... Scarred Lands material slipped in quality over the last year. R&R II was both better and much much worse then the original. Though I think Calastia was a shining star, Shelzar was unimaginative and Penumbral Pentagon just wasn't useful. I think it's one of the...

[way OT] Telescopes for star gazing?

I have a 4.5" aperture scope at home (Meade 4504) and I do generally well on skywatching. Saturn's rings come in just fine, though I don't think I can get Jupiters red spot. I tried looking at Mars just recently but there was too much upper level particulates to get a good image. I also help...

    Creature Collection Revised Opinions?

I'll swing by and help Nightfall out. I've got CCRev and it has a lot of neat stuff to it. Is it worth the sticker price if you already have CC1... maybe not. Especially if you are short on funds and you don't mind picking up the errata on the website. However, CCRev really is much more then...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Anyone play a 3.5 Archer-based Ranger yet?

I think the choice of Archer vs. Melee should likely be decided by looking at the party composition. If you've got a tank-like fighter, having an Archer ranger would reallyreally assist the group. As for halfling archer rangers... why don't you go with a thrown weapon instead of a bow. All...

Stacking fire and ice magical effects for weapons.

I would probably let it stack. I've seen stats on flaming-shocking, icy-corrosive, and all other sorts of diablo-esque weapons that I don't see why fire and ice should cancel other then flavor. It's magic. Something upon impact just unleashes a fire and a cold effect. Works for me.

Can you use items to qualify for feats?

What PrCl abilities are you talking about not qualifying? Are you ruling that if you lose the ability to use the feats that qual'ed you into a prestige class, you lose all the class abilities as well? That's a little harsh and I wouldn't rule it that way. Or are you saying there are specific...

    Gamer Minimum Age

He's always been into dice and never made a big habit of eating them. Guess we're lucky there. Recently he's been getting into imagination games, so this is why I was wondering when a good time to introduce gaming was. Since I figured that most of us 80s gamers were at the point of having...

    Gamer Minimum Age

Well, guess I've been around long enough to actually start a thread. So, I've personally gamed since I was a wee lad, effectively taking over the game my Dad ran at home in order to run it myself. This was when I was about 7. So, twenty some odd years later, I'm a father of a 2 and a half year...
