Is 3e a GM Nightmare? Rules and beyond!

Belen - What is it you are looking for in this thread? Is D&D harder on GM's then on players? Yeah, I think that's a no-brainer. I can't think of any game that is easier to run then play. Is D&D harder on GM's then previous editions? I'm not sure if this is what you are asking because you...

Blind Spellcasters -- You don't face any direction.

A couple of points: Re: Facing. It seems as if in D&D combat they've tried to avoid the issue of facing by saying if all combatants are visible and capable of defending themselves (i.e. get their Dex bonus) then a combatant will whirl around to make sure they are facing their opponents. If...

D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Can you Maximize Dispel Magic?

An argument against maximized spells with random effects In perusing the rules and thinking about maximized confusions and teleports I came upon a few things that, IMO, discredit the idea of using maximize with these spells. There exist a few spells that require rolling on a random table to...

    Touch attacks do damage?

Beat me to the punch... That's how I house rule it. If you miss but hit with the touch attack AC you do the spells damage but no other damage. It doesn't really seem to slow things down for us. I ruled it similarly with weapons of spell storing.

    Experience penalties

FYI "<b>Uneven Levels:</b> If any two of your multiclass character's classes are two or more levels apart... Your multiclass character takes a -20% penalty to XP..." Players Handbook 3.5, Chapter 3: Classes; Multiclassing, XP for Multiclass Characters (p. 60) Hope this helps. Werner Hager

Artificer's Handbook - anyone got it?

Well I think you've sold another copy. I don't necessarily mind spending XP on magic items and think that the feat based system of DMG was preferable to earlier editions. But I'm a magic item creating fiend and this system sounds preferable to the list of guidelines the DMG has. And as a...

Player's Guide to Fighters and Barbarians

I haven't gotten my copy yet (which should hopefully come before 4.0e ;) ) but I would rule that if a feat requires another feat that specifies a specific weapon, that original feat can be used only with that weapon. If Exact Blow requires WF(XX) and WS(XX) the it would be Exact Blow (XX) (XX...

What It's Like For a Gamer Girl

Re: Re: a few misunderstandings going on That sounds typical for my current group. Sounds like we have typical atypical groups! ;) Werner

What It's Like For a Gamer Girl

I might be arguing tone more then substance here. There seems to be an idea here of "if I'm coming to your group, you best accomodate me." attitude perhaps in response to the "it's a boys club, be one of the boys." I think the former (accomadate me) is a little unreasonable in the short term...

What It's Like For a Gamer Girl

I think it's missing a "there are" as well. I think it should read: It is tru(e) that (there are) some emotions that are more ok for women and some for men. Which, in a social setting, I mostly agree with. I think it would be more accurate to say that the ways we express certain emotions are...

What It's Like For a Gamer Girl

Well, I'll throw in my 2 cents into the debate. I think one thing that might be getting lost in the argument is that there is no absolute set of gaming etiquette. In the end, each group defines basic rules of protocol among their members. I'm a guy who's been in all girl groups, all guy...

Player's Guide to Fighters and Barbarians

There's a lot of room for different types of Totem Feats and only so much space in the book. So my thinking was to do 12, 4 for mundane animals, 4 for scarred lands specific animals, and 4 for more abstract concepts. And I threw in a sidebar to give advice on making their own. And from what...

Player's Guide to Fighters and Barbarians

And it's Werner HAGER. ; ) I guess we don't constitute Scarred Lands Lore yet. I'm glad you liked. My contribution was in the last parts of the book. Probably around half the feats, 8 Prestige Classes, Totem Feats, Magic Items and exotic materials. Werner Hager

    Daemons vs. Yugoloths

I'll go ahead and use Yugoloth as long as I can pronounce it Day-uh-mon. Aren't they a division of Chrysler?
