A Technical Look at D&D Insider Applications

For me, .pdfs are worth their (megabyte) weight in (virtual) gold when prepping for a session. I've used a complied SRD .pdf for game prep for the last five years or so. It lets me pull the stuff I think I'll need from the ruleset/adventure and lay it out as I see fit, for ease and speed of...

A Technical Look at D&D Insider Applications

+1 In fact, I recently bought the entire Age of Worms Adventure Path on .pdf and for the way I run these things, it's much better for me. I can cull out images, mark them up, put all the stat blocks onto one page, etc. Cut and paste FTW!

    D&D 4E Your plans for 4e

And I bet it's not Dave's only (or most mission critical) job. Edit-- which reminds me, what sort of institutional memory should they have had for this project? None of the primary designers or developers were on 3e were they? Is anyone left from the 3e rollout who could pop holes in...

    D&D 4E Your plans for 4e

Thanks for the thoughts on Shadowrun, RG. :) I had the exact same experience. It sucks. After a week with no reply, I emailed back, politely requesting a heads-up. No reply. Two weeks later, I emailed again, politely requesting a heads-up. No reply. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over? WotC is...

A Technical Look at D&D Insider Applications

All in all, I'm pleased to see that there were no dropped functions (coughetoolscough) and that the Dungeon Tiles application is looking good. I'll be looking forward to hearing how it runs. I wish I could use it -- I've got a number of pals from this site that I could be playing with online...

So, what do you think of Gleemax?

For me, usability will trump the content -- I want to read the designer's blogs, but once I bump into the suck at Gleemax, I go into "life is too short" mode, and just refresh ENWorld. QFT. I'm also a web designer, and I also think it is apalling. I do get that this is an "alpha" site...

Will you buy the preview books?

    Google Adsense?

Hahahaha, too true. It's like slapstick, except a website is falling down the stairs. :D Maybe the ads came with the template they liked the best and they haven't figured out how to turn them off yet?

Question to the Designers from Edena_of_Neith

I would prefer not, myself, because as my greatest character Dark Drakelance caused the catastrophe*, every high-level NPC that escapes is just less XPs for me. ------ * Khelben Blackstaff, the Council of Elder Wyrms and the Seven Sisters helped, but Drake was "the vision guy."

From WotC_Logan: "Maybe a Charlie Brown Christmass Tree"

True, but in D&D, Sally will set them on fire, kill them, and take their stuff.

So, what do you think of Gleemax?

Slow and ugly. It's poorly designed.

    D&D INSIDER CLARIFICATION...e-books/extras

I think he's implying that you could cut and chop a .pdf, with the right tools. I don't think we're going to get .pdfs from WotC. But as we know the SRD will continue, and be complied in HTML and .pdf by some industrious gamers, we'll always have Paris in the Spring.

Dear WotC - You suck at names.

+1 I really want the names for things in D&D to be evocative of the thing. The Shadowfell and Feywild are far better than names that might sound cool but impart no inherent meaning.

    Please Brench!

    I tried, Ruin, but I can't because I'm on a Mac.

No Macs? Holy crap did WotC do the math wrong!

That is so Zen, you must be a Mac user. I'm not in any position to question whether or not WotC made the right business call to use DirectX, and therefore cut Mac users out of the equation, but I've already had to turn down three offers for virtual gaming from far-flung friends because I don't...

Give me a competent arguement that WotC is "changing rules for the sake of change"

I don't think any of the changes were made for change's sake. WotC is building 4e in a professional environment, and it just doesn't work that way. Every change has to go in front of the designer/developer's peers and stand tall. We might disagree, dislike or disrespect a change, but none of...

    Will you subscribe to DDI?

Someone in my circle of gamers will subscribe and give it a shot, and if it's good keep it. If it's poor quality, I'll kick it to the curb.
