I'm also reading some populpar physics book right now. Flipping between The Making of the Atomic Bomb by Richard Rhodes and Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman! by various. I'm also looking forward reading The Killing Kind which is the third book in the Bird Parker serie of dark Hannibalesque...

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows - POTENTIAL SPOILERS

Don't forget the first chapter of book 6. The only wizard the muggle prime minister really liked was Kingsley after all. I can see the Ministry of Magic and Prime Minister relationship increasing now which would fit the "new ministry" clarification.

Did anyone here come into gaming *through* computers?

    > Did anyone here come into gaming *through* computers? Sort of. Before Baldur's Gate (1998) my group didn't play Dungeons & Dragons at all but a BRP/RuneQuest-based Swedish RPG called Drakar och Demoner (wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drakar_och_Demoner ). I never really liked this...

Your First Character and their impact

I think most gamers have a few character concepts that appeal to them more than others and, naturally, it's one of these concepts the new gamer tries first. I was alwas fond of archers so my first character, during the AD&D days, was an elven marksman who, in his greatest moment saved the whole...

    Fallout: worth picking up?

Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 are, as others have already said, excellent games. Fallout 2 in particular is simply amazing and I would go so far to say that it's not only the best CRPG ever made but it's the best computer game of all times. And that's saying alot, given other great titles such as...

World of Warcraft Gold seller ads.

This is a known problem with Google Ads (the ad on the bottom is Google Ads, the one on the top of the page is ENW administrated). Many websites have problems with Google showing ads that although related to the sites content in a broad sense (fantasy, gaming) are unwanted. Also see...

July - What are you listening to? (Books AND music)

I listen to two kinds of music. Or rather I listen to one kind of music and I "use" the other. First of all there's good music I enjoy for it's own sake, like classical music or some singer/songwriters. Then we have music that's not so enjoyable per se but is excellent for programming/work...

July - what are you reading?

Just finished reading Dark Hollow by John Connolly. This is the second book in the Bird Parker series (the first book being Every Dead Thing). This is a serie of very dark, gruesome thrillers; part Michael Connelly (not related), part Thomas Harris, part Dennis Lehane, part Lovecraft. I can...

Computer Stolen: Way to find it?

If the thief is stupid there are possibly some ways to find the computer. If there's a commercial anti virus program on the computer with some kind of auto update feature that runs regularly, there is a chance the anti virus vendor will know the thieves IP address the next time it runs. This is...

    Int = IQ?

IQ follows a gaussian distribution with an average of 100. Using the common tests and ignoring the defintion, the global average is probably closer to 85-90, with some countries having an average IQ in the high 50's / low 60's. See for example "IQ and the wealth of nations". It's controversial...

June - What are you reading?

Just read: John Connolly - Every Dead Thing. Dark, gruesome thriller. Recommended. Currently Reading: Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. I never read the Harry Potter books, but now when the series is coming to an end I figured I'd read them this summer. Currently Reading: Ayn Rand - We...

Rogues: essential class or sacred cow?

Thank you Pickaxe and T. Foster for the most insightful posts I've read in a very long time. I had never thought about this myself but it is very true; the rogue is not really needed as a concept. And classes are concepts, not professions. I think the biggest problem conceptually is most people...

    Computer Upgrade Time

Intel will slash prices on July 22. Most noticeably Core 2 Quad Q6600 will be cut from $530 to $266. This is because AMD is releasing some new CPU:s, named "Phenom" in the third quarter, and Intels updated Core 2:s won't be released until the fourth quarter. Intel has been on the offensive the...

Heads up: Baldur's Gate II patches 2007

I tried 1280x960 and it works just fine. Even 1600x1200 and 2048x1536 is supported. Or, rather, it's "unsupported", but there's a setting for it in the config program. It works for me tho. :)

    Favorite Webcomics?

My favorite is xkcd. It's quite obscure though, and many of the strips are very hard to understand if you're not well versed in computer science and mathematics. And of course we have The Perry Bible Fellowship! :)

Heads up: Baldur's Gate II patches 2007

I'm playing Baldur's Gate 2 again, great game. In fact, Baldur's Gate 2 is so great lots of people have worked on unofficial patches for the game, in their free time. So, if you feel like playing BG2 again, when you have installed the game and the latest official patch from bioware.com, I...
