    Repelling blast

If the feature was stating the range at which it acted at it would say "You may push a creature within 10ft of you". The game rules are fairly consistent at using the word "within" when talking about range. You always target or affect things "within" your range, never "up to" your range.

    Hex Warrior Feature Question

There is no game mechanic difference between a glaive or halberd other than their name. It's all about what you see in your mind.

Can Sharpshooter be used with a Net?

Look, you might be adding 10 to the weapon's damage, but the weapon doesn't deal damage. So you're adding 10 to the damage which the weapon then proceeds to not deal. So best case scenario you went from not dealing "--" damage to not dealing 10 damage. A moral victory perhaps, but not a...

Playing with the Averages - A simplistic approach

The best use for using average dice rolls is when I'm DMing and I end up fighting myself, either with an NPC in the party or when the city watch shows up to help or when enemies attack enemies for whatever reason. I've sat through DMs who end up in a situation where they have 10 guards attack 14...

D&D 5E Kenku - Poorly thought out race no matter how cool

I really think the mistake is seeing mimicry as a limitation, rather than a cool flavor. I've heard of DMs insisting that kenku can only use phrases heard _that_ session. Bad form. Kenku speak using phrases they've already heard. That shouldn't be a super hard limit because by the time...

    Help with homebrew world races

A race of celestial guardians who were the divine protector of an ancient civilization that died out a thousand years ago due to internal corruption and strife. Now the celestials are mere husks, blackened flesh on emaciate frames, enervated by their failure and a millennia of despondency...

Blockchain and RPGs: When Fantasy Meets (Digital) Reality

At first I though this was like LoJacking a Hot wheels. Now I'm pretty sure this is more like LoJacking a picture you drew of a car. Even if its a really good picture and you're entering it into an art contest, that's not the most reasonable way to go. The ONLY way this could make sense is if...

    Blow Darts

My thought on blowdarts that I've considered pitching to a dm is that the standard ammo for it is already poisoned, as there is no reason to fire a non-poisoned dart. The standard poisoned dart is long storage stable and does 1d4 poison damage + dex piercing damage. (the poison triggers on a...

Tomb of Annihilation - Toning It Down Suggestions [spoilers]

That is how I ran the tomb, actually I gave them 2 failed saves, and it was I think it was certainly still scary enough.

    Darts and Daggers

Long story short: I'm making a kensai monk that uses daggers and darts (flavored as throwing knives) as his kensai weapons. I know what I'm doing, it is partially a joke (that is it amuses me quite a bit) but mostly its the most interesting way I found to make the daggers only fighter character...

    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

The first time I ever played D&D the catch-phrase of the night was "Out comes the Bastard sword". In my heart it's the weapon of reckless fighters happily escalating the situation. so I echo you in being annoyed at it not being core. I'd follow that up with the weapon design in 5e in general...

Pathfinder: Kingmaker Is An Isometric RPG Experience

If you played NWN (which used D&D 3.0) you should be able to get into Kingmaker. Pathfinder is essentially tweaked D&D3.5, so a lot of things, like feats, spells, saves are the same/similar, mostly more options have been added for each class. It is a very "Full" system though, and it can be a...

Pathfinder: Kingmaker Is An Isometric RPG Experience

I'd rather not have my character read their lines, especially if its branching dialogue. I've already read the dialogue choice I want to make, I don't need to hear my character slowly drawl their way through a text I already read. I would only skip it anyway. The Mass Effect series(several...

Sage Advice: Plane and world hopping (includes how Eberron and Ravnica fit in D&D cosmology)

I have no real objection to "They can be in the same multiverse because magic" What is painful, bad-food to me is over-explaining how every aspect of it of one world is shoved into a box (or crystal sphere, I guess) and stuck in some sort of separate-but-present paradox as if it doesn't...

Unearthed Arcana [5E] Unearthed Arcana: Races of Eberron (July 2018)

In the envoy sidebar it talks about "Masque" a warforged with a built in disguise kit. Is anyone else picturing a warforged wearing lipstick and a fake mustache trying to pass itself off as human? What is a disguise kit to a warforged? You aren't going to pass as anything other than a...

    Everybody Cheats?

Hi, My name is Larrin, and I'm a cheater. It's been 10 years since I've kept track of ammunition on a character sheet. Even when the DM tells me I should. I just can't. I pay for 140 arrows and assume that should cover it until the cost of arrows is trivial, and then I don't worry about it.

The "Superstitious Mumbo Jumbo" Of Dice Rolling

I can't speak to why he chose those two words specifically, however... The typical American English speaker will find iztacíhuatl a hard word to pronounce, and when hearing it pronounced correctly (or even incorrectly) will find it intriguing. For example, "izt" is not a combination of letters...

D&D 5E Pact of the Chain "Find Familiar" options...

The damage should stay at 1 pt whether using finesse short sword or str-based longsword. By that standard, no, giving the sprite a +6 attack for 1 dmg at melee will not break the sprite at all. Giving it a +6 attack for 5 dmg probably would be an incorrect choice.
