It was the psionicists "scanners" brain exploding equivalent of 2e.

something from a nose bleed, to keep the scanners film element, to a spectacular brain explosion making a mess of the place could be the replacement for all botches or all 20/backfires cases. The mechanism already exists in the old system.

    D&D 2E 2E Darksun Observations

This would create the need for a very good mop. :) How do other systems handle casting in general and psionics in particular? Is there some simple and rather fast system that could be adjusted to replace the 2e psionics system if the one that already exists is not to be used and its...

    D&D 2E 2E Darksun Observations

these are both great, one is funny and the randomness of the other exciting as it brings some suspense, for conventional board games but in and rpg they would be a problem. Our psionicist just exploded his head and we have bits and pieces of his brain and skull all over the place and the other...

    D&D 2E 2E Darksun Observations

The most important thing regarding fixing psionics in a 2e edition Dark Sun game would be to not make them more complex mechanically, they can be different of course, or time consuming than other forms of magic. So you would have the benefits of fixing the psionic system without having created...

D&D 2E 2e snow golem (Ravenloft), lesser and greater

At the same time they all have electrical conductivity which i do not know how the writer justified its existence and it does not fit at all. "If hit with an electrical attack while touching another creature, the attack is conducted through the body of the snow golem and does full damage to...

D&D 2E 2e snow golem (Ravenloft), lesser and greater

Out of curiosity i checked out the 3.5 Snow Golem (Denizens of Dread, page 101, CR 10) and that one does not have the weapon sunder but has good AC and two attacks per round. It can advance up to 26 HD to a gargantuan size. I guess they thought adding the weapon sunder would make it too...

D&D 2E 2e snow golem (Ravenloft), lesser and greater

And if one makes the mistake of using the Appendix 3 Snow Golem statistics instead of the ones in the adventure, by some forgetfulness, then the characters will not even get to Meredoth. Which can kill them anyways since he is a 20th level necromancer in an adventure for 8-10th level characters...

D&D 2E 2e snow golem (Ravenloft), lesser and greater

In the 2e Ravenloft adventure Ship of Horror a snow golem entry appears. The snow golem later reappears in Ravenloft Appendix 3 Creatures of Darkness. While they don't have the titles lesser and greater, it seems to be the case. The Ravenloft Appendix 3 stats of the Snow Golem (greater snow...

    D&D 2E 2e Iron Golem, gas errata

So at least 3 things can be done. One is lethal gas, save or die. Two is cloudkill spell emulation and three is poisoned for 3 rounds (this also can disrupt spellcasting). Depending on how lethal that particular iron golem the DM wants it to be.

The whole "your head just exploded", scanners 1981, style sounds very funny but its too much. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081455/

    D&D 2E 2E Darksun Observations

if three systems can exist for each kind of magic, for priests, mages and psionicists then it would be very good but each must be relatively simple, as 1vs3 systems would be cumbersome to gameplay.

    D&D 2E 2E Darksun Observations

Yes this as well, as "spells", but without the head exploding from the scanners film :) If we do this for psioncs, the head exploding thing, then the magical spells would require some sort of % check where you could cause a tear in reality and then fiends would start pouring through or some...

D&D 1E Forgotten Realms in AD&D 1st Edition a better setting for adventures?

Playing with 1e FR box is good for the beginning and seeing the setting at its more foundational state. Even if one moves to 2e, 3e setting (or later editions and past that, having the experience of the setting in 1e adds to the fun of the game.

    D&D 2E 2E Darksun Observations

The solution for 2e psionics is to retro-convert the 3.5 psionics and do whatever other modifications are needed for balance with the other spellcasterrs. Dark Sun is the best setting ever from the non-classic fantasy ones but the 2e psionics are quite lame. Also i would ignore the 2e Dark Sun...

D&D 1E AD&D (yes, 2e too) players and referees, what do you think of rolling under for ability and NWP checks?

This is always how i did it, roll under you ability score in 2e and 1e. Simple and fast.
