    Is the Tratnyr underpowered?

It's an exotic weapon because it adds versatility rather than power. But there aren't any classes, except (marginally) an warlord, strength-build cleric, or beastmaster ranger, that can make much use if its versatility.

Correct me if I'm wrong: Paladin Marks

Wow, when I made this thread, I just wanted to confirm my suspicions about distinguishing Divine Challenge from other marks a Paladin makes. Now it's turned into a 3 page old school message board not-quite-flame-fest. Here's the low-down: 1. I am a smart guy who has been playing D&D for...

    Tempests with double weapons

I don't think WOTC has made an official ruling on this. MY ruling (or rather, my interpretation of WOTC's intent): Double weapons are NOT the same as wielding two one-handed weapons. They are two handed weapons that follow all the rules of two handed weapons (ala Power Attack, Reaping...

Correct me if I'm wrong: Paladin Marks

Correct me if I'm wrong: An enemy that has been marked by a Paladin only takes damage from attacking another creature if the marked condition was caused by the Divine Challenge At-Will ability. If the Paladin marked the creature through another ability, say the Justicar ability that marks...

Archer vs TWF, again. Forked Thread: Proud Nails?

I didn't realize you had the final word on the matter. I thought other people might like to chime in their opinions. I'll start: The two ranger fighting styles are perfectly balanced with each other in every way.

Archer vs TWF, again. Forked Thread: Proud Nails?

Forked from: Proud Nails? Forking it here. I hate undead threads.

    AC: melee rangers and warlocks

The improvment in AC from an attribute raising is minimal, and nonexistent for characters wearing heavy armor. Rangers and Warlocks (Not to mention rogues and wizards) are supposed to have a lower AC than Defenders and Leaders, as they are not supposed to be on the front line as much. Even a...

Two-blades ranger with two bastards - kosher?

As far as I can tell, it's the only one-handed weapon that isn't either versatile or off-hand. It makes sense, though. Historically, they were lighter and less dependent on the weight of the blade than a longsword and thus wouldn't benefit greatly from having the extra force of a second hand...

Help requested with an Eldarin Fey Pact Warlock

Wouldn't the -5 be offset by being invisible? You make the stealth check while invisible, but you still have concealment and thus can remain "stealthing" through your next turn, because you still have basic concealment... *OW! STEALTH RULES HEADACHE*

    Beastmaster: Best for concept rangers.

He'll be fine for ranged attacks, but melee will be a problem until he can pop his STR up at level 4. Also, remember he's a halfling, so that's not a lot of points invested in DEX for a primary stat. Still, ya' know, BEAR, so it's all good.

    Beastmaster: Best for concept rangers.

Attack stats are just as important now as they always were. The main difference is in stats that are not key abilities for the respective classes. In 3e, Intelligence was way useful for every character, because of skill points. Most groups I played in had no characters with fewer than 14...

    Beastmaster: Best for concept rangers.

That ranger sucks equally in both systems. But that is an extreme example. The stats from my last post are more like what I was talking about. I actually think 4e is WAY better than 3e, but I don't think anyone can argue that 3e wasn't more flexible in what options you could take for your...

    Beastmaster: Best for concept rangers.

Yeah, it's one of those "no right answer" scenarios. I'd want him to have Nature, so if I made him a rogue, I'd multiclass to ranger anyway. As a ranger, I'd multiclass him to Warlord to get training in Diplomacy, and to get him some leader-y goodness, since the character's concept is that...

    Beastmaster: Best for concept rangers.

All true, and I'm not saying doing that wouldn't be fun, and skills are great, but when it comes down to it, D&D (especially 4e) is geared towards optimizing what your character is supposed to be good at, as determined by his class. I could certainly make this character as an archer ranger, but...

    Beastmaster: Best for concept rangers.

I had a 3.5 character that I loved but translated poorly to 4e. In short, he was a halfling ranger who hunted outlaws, but he was part of a noble tradition of gentleman (gentle-halfling) hunters, and as such, had higher than ranger-optimum intelligence and charisma. Doing him properly in 4e...

Help requested with an Eldarin Fey Pact Warlock

How long does the concealment from Shadow Walk last? Can you move after using Eyebite and use the Stealth skill to stay hidden through your next turn? Or does that go away at the start of your next turn, too?

Help requested with an Eldarin Fey Pact Warlock

Your eladrin bonus to INT is going to be handy; Most Fey-Warlock powers are based on CHA, but INT is used for the special bonus effects that they incur. For instance (I don't have the book in front of me), a power might do a certain amount of damage based on CHA, then incur an attack penalty...

    Duelist Rogue?

Multiclassing to Ranger and picking up a two-weapon encounter or daily attack power is great fun. Martial Power has two paragon paths that might fit: Halfling Quickblade and Rakish Swashbuckler.

    Why be an archer ranger?

Toughness is a good feat. But for a primarily archer character, I would say Defensive mobility is better. If you wanted to play a ranger that switched freely between the two fighting styles without overtly favoring one or the other, then TWF is the stronger choice. However, radical though it...
