What are you reading (Mar '08)?

Those Otori books are a lot of fun. I tore through them. I just finished Pandora's Star, Matter (the new Culture novel by Iain M. Banks), and I'm burning through Christopher Moore's A Dirty Job. I'm really digging these Christopher Moore books. He reminds me of Carl Hiaasen at his peak, but...

What are you reading (Mar '08)?

I only got about halfway through this book. It's a hard read, I think. There were parts where I was thinking it was a great book, but it started to bog down and I never finished it. I'd like to hear from someone who did and really liked it. Maybe I'll give it another try.

What are you reading (Feb 08)?

If you like Mike Mignola's Hellboy, you'll like his new book Baltimore, The Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire. He and Christopher Golden wrote it. I don't know which had a greater hand in the writing, but it really captures the feel of Mignola's art. The many illustrations don't hurt either...

    Rocketship Empires 1936 Released...

My friends and I are starting up an RE campaign next Thursday using Savage Worlds. They are playing a newsreel crew that gets stuck on an uncharted planet while covering a survey team. I'm gonna go heavy on the planetary romance/pulp stuff on this one.

    My First Savage Worlds Game

I also forgot to add that SW is a GM's dream. You can so easily come up with things on the fly. I would regularly just roll d6s for any stat for on-the-fly NPCs, maybe adding an edge or bumping the die size up one to d8 or down one to d4 for a specific skill to make them interesting. The players...

    My First Savage Worlds Game

Cool! Another convert. My group and I played D&D 3.x for about five years and got fed up with the bookkeeping. We switched to SW and never looked back. The key to Savage combat is the gang up bonus combined with Tricks and Tests of Will. It sets up the fighty characters for the one good shot...

    What's your favorite takeout?

Sadly, this is the case in our area too. The town I live in is like the definition of suburb: population doubling in less than ten years. It's all strip malls and chains. No places to walk. Very few independent stores of anything. My favorite take-out, Yats, started in the cool bohemian part of...

[SWSE] Any other options than minis for representing spacecraft out there?

Do you have legos? This guy made some pretty sweet starwars ships using legos that are about the size you need.

[Eve] Any advice for a n00b?

This weekend I got a PC that can actually play decent games and I installed Eve Online to check it out. Sheesh, there's a lot to this game! Anybody have advice for a n00b?

That's just crazy enough to work! I had Yats today for lunch. I think I need a nap now.

    PC, Xbox 360 or PS3?

I came back here to check on this thread after pretty much deciding not to buy anything. Recently, though, my company announced a huge bonus this year--not enough for a nice gaming PC, but I might be able to get a console. I'm still leaning Xbox360 because I want to play Halo 2 and 3, Bioshock...

Jan 08 - What are you reading?

I just finished two comics by Joann Sfar: The Professor's Daughter and Vampire Loves. I've read one of his Dungeon comics before this. I really dig his quirky artwork (it reminds me of Sergio Aragones from Mad Magazine and Groo the Wanderer) and stories. If you can find them, I recommend them.

    What's your favorite takeout?

Holy crap, I think my heart stopped just reading that. Of course, the former Buffalo Wild Wings place in downtown Indy, now called Badaboomz, has a hamburger with a DONUT as a BUN!

That sounds like a kickass pizza. I might have to try to make something like that at home.

Nothing Quite Like A Cup Of Coffee On A Cold Day

The inside of my nose started to freeze as I crossed the park-n-ride lot from my car to the bus this morning. It was 1F. And I too appreciated by home-brewed from freshly ground Breakfast blend this morning.

Jan 08 - What are you reading?

That John C. Wright stuff is awesome. I just finished Christopher Moore's Bloodsucking Fiends and You Suck on vacation. Great stuff. I look forward to reading his other books. I'm in the middle of The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers. So far I like Declare and On Stranger Tides better, but it's...

    Dice Games?

I've been playing 10,000 for years now with friends and family. I've never heard it called that, though. My friends got it from one of their friends who claimed to have invented it (riiiight). She called it "You Blew It". My friends called it "Crap Out". Independently, my in-laws brought it to...
