D&D 5E You lads ever play 5e... on weed?

True, but I think its because the Oliphaunt wasn't a danger to Legolas. Now if Legolas had tried to climb on Sauron...

D&D 5E Fun, fun, fun... 'till the DM takes the T-Bird away

It's funny because I love, specifically, making sure the DM is having as much fun as possible. I sorta consider the DM to be "my audience." I love looking over at the DM and seeing them shocked, worried, amazed. Watching them burst laughing, and wincing, and pouting, and grin maliciously. Just...

D&D 5E Fun, fun, fun... 'till the DM takes the T-Bird away

That's really cool, and interesting. I've always considered D&D to be fundamentally anarchistic. You have to opt-in for everything. The game, the group, the party, and the only thing your responsible for and can control is your own actions.

D&D 5E Fun, fun, fun... 'till the DM takes the T-Bird away

I'll admit that my post sounds really self serving at the surface. That it encourages anti-social or A-hole behaviour. I think it's because I tried to keep the post as short and concise as I could. I agree that each participant should try to make sure everyone else is having fun. But that's...

D&D 5E Fun, fun, fun... 'till the DM takes the T-Bird away

I think everyone is responsible for their own fun, and only their own fun. No one should feel entitled or expect to have someone else hand them "fun." That's your job. I feel bad when DMs think that it's their job to make sure everyone else is having fun. That if someone didn't have fun it's...

D&D 5E Bounded Accuracy and Asmodeus

The machinations and politics to keep this from happening must be incredible. Reminds me of a youtube video called The Rules for Rulers. It's really easy to follow and cute. The first part is about dictatorships which Asmodeus is, fundamentally, I think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rStL7niR7gs

    D&D 5E Swashbuckler

The Fighter, Pally, Sorc are all really heavy hitters. It doesn't look like the party needs another one, and an extra d8 or d6 isn't going to amount to very much. But maybe you should consider more Utility, you're the skill monkey after all. I was going to suggest getting the Skill feat to nab...

D&D 5E You lads ever play 5e... on weed?

That's a sound way to handle it, I think. You get them to clarify a vague, generic statement for a clear intent. Then they opt-in for the hangover role. You even key in their Con scores to make them a little more personal, that's a good touch.

D&D 5E You lads ever play 5e... on weed?

I have no idea, But they made a mechanic to climb up a gargantuan ancient dragon. If that's not fun and remarkably self-destructive then I don't know what is.

    DM tips - improv

Always say "yes...but..." Ideals, Bonds, and Flaws are the closest thing to leverage you will ever have on the PCs. Make every decision based on them. memorize them, use them, abuse them. And remind your Players of them, "Hey Thief, there's gambling in the bar, isn't your Flaw Gambling...

D&D 5E You lads ever play 5e... on weed?

That's cool. I really like super drugs and weird magic drugs in fantasy games. They can have some really fun effects. But to me, they can be hard to balance because I haven't seen any over-dose, or addiction mechanics that are very good. And a lot of drugs default to those mechanics for balance...

D&D 5E You lads ever play 5e... on weed?

I understand the logic of it. And I can see why a DM would ask for the check. My personal issue is that a generic statement like "We celebrate and get drunk." Is too broad a statement to warrant a check, and should be left to the Player to decide what that means for the PC. I've seen people use...

D&D 5E You lads ever play 5e... on weed?

I think 5e's lack of +1/+2 modifiers and overall streamline makes it more stoner/lush friendly then some other editions. Theater of the Mind things like scenes, monsters, attacks, and other descriptors would probably be a little more vivid and fun. But positioning might get muddled up a little...

D&D 5E new, learning to be GM, have Questions

I really like the Wizard of Oz idea you have, and I get a little bit of an Alice in wonderland vibe as well. It sounds like you want Magic to be kinda mischievous and what first came to mind was having excess magic be like a wind that's opalescent and smells like cupcakes or something and have...

D&D 5E Request for thoughts on falling damage change

    An Alt. system i've seen that I don't think has been mentioned is having the dice grow, they went by every 2m, but you can go for every 5ft, or 10ft to keep it familiar. 5ft - d2, or d4-2 10ft - d4 15ft - d6 20ft - d8 25ft - d10 30ft - d12 35ft - d20 40ft - 2d20 45ft - 3d20 Or if you want to...

D&D 5E Request for thoughts on falling damage change

The only problem I personally have with the rules is the 10ft damage because of how they tend to work with climbing checks at low levels. There's always a scene where someone says; PC: I'm going to climb the tree. DM: Make a strength athletics check. PC: OK *Rolls dice* DM: You fail, take 1d6...

D&D 5E Request for thoughts on falling damage change

In last weeks episode of Critical Role the Druid swan dived off a 2 thousand ft. cliff screaming something like "We're golden gods." She could have turned into a bird at any moment but decided to turn into a fish. She's about 16th lvl with HP north of 100, and i think she figured she'd miss...

D&D 5E Mike Mearls' AMA Summary

I remember MM mentioning that during the playtest the Druids Wild Shape was the most contentious Feature from all the classes, up to the very end of the playtest. He said that they would keep an eye on it even after the release, and wouldn't be surprised if issues crept up in the future. He...

    D&D 5E Best designed classes in 5e

I think the Rogue might be the best designed class, and the Thief is my favourite subclass. Fun fact, I remember hearing that originally Cunning Action was supposed to be a Thief Feature. But it was so popular (Something north of 90% approval rating, and I think the most popular Feature in the...
