Sorry, I play Savage Worlds, and it is a fantastic system, really falling in love with it (much like I LOVE D6) it isn't what I am looking for at all... I am looking for a very specific thing and thus far it seems I need to use Castles & Crusades with some hacks to bring the Class abilities...

Tell me more about Monsters & Magic please. I dislike FATE intently, but that's mostly because of the dice mechanic... so this might be cool. I would like to know more :)

My players and I are very narrative and story driven. We don't tend to use maps or figures. We tend to want simpler systems that do not have bog down rules, as the minutae about "half move actions" etc... We are a bunch of old men with not much time to learn rules anymore. ;) I think gutting...

Story and setting always trump rules for us and yes, I am damn good at improvisational GMing, which is why I like a more streamlined and less crunchy D&D :)

Overall I preferred it to the 1st D&D by leaps and bounds, but not as much as the 2nd, which I found to be wholly entertaining. Here's to hoping we get a 4th one some time, cause really this is better than any of the post-LOTR boom of fantasy films shot in Vancouver (Can you name them all?) ;)

My group loves puzzles and I suck at making them. I will watch this thread with enormous glee!

While I think of it, there is also BareBones Fantasy which having run twice now is an awesomely simple yet surprisingly deep system with an active and enthusiastic community.

It's funny, but the amount of "I never want to see another Tolkien/D&D fantasy world with Elves and Dwarves, etc..." replies I have seen on other forums where I ask this almost makes me want to make the most vanilla, generic, Tolkienesque setting there is, just to see what happens ;) I must say...
