    Throwing Weapons in Your Off-Hand

Well yeah, you can't do that. I was more responding to the first part. Say they had a longsword and a javelin, could they chuck the javelin?

Best ranged weapon for a small character?

Any chance you remember what damage die they deal? I think my friend *might* have it, since I think he has the '09 Dragon Annual, but if not, I want to know if I'm missing out. :(

    Active Perception and Passive Perception

That's a good way of doing it, Gruns. Tell them something is amiss, like scorch marks on the floor near a trap, or one area of the tiled floor seems a little discolored.

    Throwing Weapons in Your Off-Hand

I *think* it's okay, but javelins are a hard example. If this was, say, a dagger or handaxe, the answer would be more obvious.

Are These Ideas A Sack of Rats?

I think the player would be wasting it in most cases. It's an encounter power, so using it now means it might not save his bacon later. He's also taking damage(As a DM, I would of course make him roll damage. No "just scratch" or something like that). I guess I'd have to see this ploy in action...

    Active Perception and Passive Perception

That works. Also, if you're really worried they'll get themselves hurt doing this, if the trap is weak enough to where they can mostly shrug it off, you might be better off letting them trip it and learn their lesson. If it's more dangerous than that, do what I do: Just point at a player and say...

    Reach

It means that if a monster stands right by you, you can hit them. This wasn't the case in 3rd edition when you had reach weapons, which is why they're clarifying it here.

Are These Ideas A Sack of Rats?

I'm not going to turn this into an argument scenario, so I'll overlook you calling my post "terrible". Perhaps I was being a little reactionary, but it was still uncalled for. Cutting yourself isn't exactly a freebie. You still take the damage, and like I said, it IS against the rules. In...

Are These Ideas A Sack of Rats?

RAW, the first isn't legal, but "shame"? That's a great way to say "Don't try anything creative, or you'll be shunned." Might not be what you mean, but it might be how they take it if you said that to one of your players. I'd rather them try something, even if I have to say no, than for them to...

If you are to make a Dwarf in heavy armor with a Halberd at Heroic Tier

Exactly. -1 to hit kind of sucks, but Halberd with DWT is still certainly viable. Probably the best polearm option a Dwarf has, since we don't have any Reach croquet mallets, yet. ;)

Best ranged weapon for a small character?

Are Javelins versatile? I don't *think* they are, but I could be wrong. I saw mention of a blowgun, where can a PC get one of those?

    Which book...

Shielding Swordmage is one of the best Defenders, so I'd recommend it.

If you are to make a Dwarf in heavy armor with a Halberd at Heroic Tier

A halberd *does* count as an axe, so Dwarven Weapon Training helps make up for the lack of STR bonus.

Does your DM hide their rolls?

I do it behind the screen. One, it's more convenient than reaching over the screen to get my dice back, and two, it's fun to me to reveal dicerolls.

Killed a dragon, now they wanna strip it

Oh, don't get me wrong, I was very happy they went that route. They RP a lot in D&D, and have their own set of morals. They hate to graverob, but a dead dragon or something is a veritable chop shop. The "tanner" reason I gave is because in, in part, I wanted to give them some boots or something...

    Dwarven Lumberjacks

Do they dual wield nunchucks? Kidding aside, I think it was Dungeon Master's Guide 2 that had guidelines for boosting or detracting from a monster's level. My advice would be to just drop their defenses and to-hit a couple of points to be on par with encounters of that level, or just the...

    Is darkness broken

I'm all for having monsters do what they do best, but within reason. Having Drow be able to see through each other's darkness is an example is bad DMing unless you are aware what you are doing is against the RAW and probably RAI. I guess if your players are REALLY capable at hitting, then it...

Killed a dragon, now they wanna strip it

My players got oddly specific with me. My brother in particular made a list of the organs he was harvesting to place in jars for Arcane components for rituals, while another wanted to skin the dragon to make Hide armor, etc. I told them they can take the skin with them, but they are going to...

    I believe they are.
