No, Little John and Robin did indeed duel with staves. Tuck may of, but all I remember him using was a cudgel. Robin met both men as adversaries, and in many versions, they joined under his leadership despite him actually failing to best them in combat.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! Martial Power 2 has made a lot of weapons have some nice selling points, I see. MP2 has some very nice bonuses, too, granted by combat styles. Steel Vanguard's crit range bonus for two handed heavy blades makes the Falchion an excellent choice if you want to...

    Distant Advantage

I'm inclined to say no, but I would probably allow it, as I am generous to an absurd degree at times. RAW, though, I don't think it'd work because your allies are not flanking it in the scenario you're describing. Two guys flanking it, you can jump in and have some fun, too, but just one of them...

Heh, I meant more that I love how they look, etc. I would love to own one one of these days, though obviously I'd need to explore prices and the legality of having a polearm in my house. Would be more menacing to a burglar than a mere baseball bat, I reckon.

Martial Power 2 - Comments, Reviews, Noteworthy Stuff?

Besides, some DM's *cough-Me-cough* do give some OA's up when it's called for. Rats, for instance, are rather stupid like this. I think I also had it be an issue with drunk goblins. Just depends on the circumstances. Not having MP2 yet, do any of the combat styles utilize light blades? I...

You can always refluff. Maybe a barbed harpoon, etc?

What's wrong with the Trident? Sure, the range kind of sucks, but there are enchantments to improve that.

Multible Misty Step - All at once...

    This sounds perfectly fair.

All fine points. I guess the only spear variations I can think of left to do would be too handed anyway, or Fire Spears if you're a big Suikoden fan. ;)

I like that, sounds good. Tempest Fighter seemed like the way to go to me, too. Might do it with my next character I play.

Trident has a couple of things in its favor over a longsword or battle axe, for example. You can throw it, which can be useful on occasion. You lose some things in comparison, but hey, it's certainly doable. Shame there are only a few one-handed spears, but I guess we have to take what we can get.

Eladrin gets a little spear love, at least with the +2. It's not quite Dwarven Weapon Training, as it doesn't grant much in the way of freebie profiency, but it's a start.

True, true, but hey, picks needed a little love, so I don't mind. My Eladrin that I wanted to play would be using a trident probably, anyhow, so that's peachy for me.

Hehe, I know what I'm doing if I ever go Epic, then. I wager it'd be a lot of fun, seeing those 4's pop up.

    Battle standard on a wagon

If you just want to fly the flag to rally your troops, hey, power to you. Hell, as the DM, I might even make the "morale boost" something tangible. Would I, as a DM, allow this use of it, though, to activate it as normal without the usual drawbacks? Nice try, clever, but no.

Sounds pretty snazzy! That'd be an example a Ranger not just going with Scimitar instead for more damage and freeing up a feat, so if nothing else, I'm proven wrong on that front. ;)

I was just a lurker here at the time, but oy vey, you're right. Some very nasty bickering was to be had there

Yeah, I've never played Epic, but it would be a fun experience. If I do, Vorpal would be mighty attractive.

    Glaive, Falchion, Katar

Vorpal, eh? Heh, too bad the MM doesn't have a Bandersnatch, Jubjub bird, or Jabberwocky. If I employed a Vorpal falchion, I dare say their days would be numbered, once my blade goes snicker-snack. Kidding aside, which book is this enchantment in? You'd save me the headache of looking, if you'd...

    Background benefits?

Granted, I don't have the book in front of me, but doesn't Toughness increase to 10 at Paragon, and 15 at Epic? Granted, that won't make any difference at Heroic, but taking that into account, it doesn't seem terribly powerful to me. A good choice, but not THE choice, you know?
