Is it true that in early versions of 3rd ed sorcerors could cast cure spells?

--bret-- I don't know why so many people hate playing clerics. In my opinion, they are the most powerful character class in 3rd edition. -------- People don't hate playing clerics, they hate playing healers. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter if you specialize your cleric in war magic...

Cast See Invisibility on others or not?

Just responding to the "this spell is woefully underpowered camp"... This is probably the only 2nd level spell that _every_ arcane caster I've seen has taken as soon as it's available (followed by Knock) Heck, my sorcerer is planning on taking See Invisible _and_ Glitterdust so that he can do...

    "I nerfed the sorceror"

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I think I might pull a "little of this and a little of that" to come up with a slight variant. I'll definitely post it - and results of testing - when I get a chance. Thanks again for the great responses!

They hybrid Roll N' Buy ability score generation method

--Al---- Experienced RPers take what they get and make what they can of it: poor stat characters are more interesting that the straight-18 ultra. The trick is not to throw out the baby with the bathwater- the system is good, but the players may be lousy. So the solution? Change the players, not...

    "I nerfed the sorceror"

Monte's sorceror --Crothian-- Monte's Sorcerer is not weak. It's more powerful then the PHB version. The big change of the spell list is okay. Some of the better spells have been increased by a spell level, but I don't think that will hinder the sorcerer much as there are still many good spells...

    "I nerfed the sorceror"

RE: Random thoughts --Chacal---- -How about giving them the metamagick bonus feats of the wizard? ... -A classic house rule is the free eschew material feat. -------- This is what we've done up to this point. I thought much the same way - that metamagic feats would emphasize their strengths...

    "I nerfed the sorceror"

Hmm... --hong-- I would ask: do you absolutely, positively 100% _need_ two specialist arcane spellcasting classes in your game? -------- Great point. From a campaign point of view, I don't see a need for a sorceror. I think my motivation in trying to keep the class was to provide an...

    "I nerfed the sorceror"

We use a scaled-down version of spontaneous casting in our campaign: wizards/clerics/druids prepare spells, but don't lose them when cast (so they can freely cast from their prepared list, up to their max spells for the day). This adds a little flexibility to "standard" casters, but had the...

    Greyhawk information?!

--Erik-- This type of information takes up about two pages, total, of the LGG. I think you might enjoy the book, as it gives you exactly the type of information you're looking for ------ Thank you very much - that's _exactly_ what I was hoping to hear. I'll make a point of ordering it right...

    Greyhawk information?!

Thanks for the help! Hong, Sinjin, Zenon - thanks for the great pointers. There isn't a lot of material where I live, so I was really hoping for some enlightened opinions on where to start. --corndog-- I'm not sure why I even bother anymore... The LGG is HUGE in the way of support for...

    Greyhawk information?!

I'm looking at running a group through the new Return to Temple of Elemental Evil module, but I'm having difficulty finding any information on Greyhawk. I find it a little frustrating that it's supposed to be the core setting, but there's little in the way of support information (wrt...

    ring of wizardry

From the SRD: The wearer’s arcane spells per day are doubled for one specific spell level. <...> Bonus spells from high ability scores or school specialization are not doubled. This is pretty clear. The ring increases the number of spells that you can cast in a day. In other words, you're...

Allignment Problems in my Campaign: Chaotic Neutral or just Annoying...

<snip> I'm not in favor of any alignment banning. All lot of these posts are really restricting the roleplaying aspect of alignment. I've played with a CN characters that have been a blast. Randomness was dictated by the flip of a coin. </snip> Flipping a coin to determine a character's...

Elem. Savant & Incantatrix NOT for pure sorcerers?

Does anyone know of an non-FR feat for achieving this?

    Planar Familiar

I suspect that the restrictions are intentional. I kind of like it the way it is: a wizard's familiar will have an elemental basis (with the other spells listed on the WOTC site) and a cleric/wizard's familiar will be planar. It also allows the Mystic Wanderer PRC, and other clerics PRCs that...

    Tailoring treasure to the party

I'm with DMaple on this one [edit: ...and Victim, who posted while I was banging this out]... I plant treasure that logically makes sense, and encourage PCs to make/find their own equipment as necessary. Planting equipment seems contrived and removes a lot of the challenge for PCs. In 2E, I did...

    Recovering from energy drain?!

In our campaign last night, the party's wizard was drained two levels by a vampire. The party didn't have a cleric and incorrectly assumed that the effect would expire. At the end of the 24h period, the wizard failed both fort saves and permanently lost the levels. This puts the party at a...

Semi-Spontaneous Casting: What would it take to balance it?

Been there... I adopted a house rule identical to this a year ago, with great success. In our campaign, wizards prepare and cast spells as you describe. They also gain bonus feats, but can't spontaneously metamagic. In other words, if your wizards wants to use an Extended Rope Trick, he needs...
