D&D 5E What happens if 5E fails to unite the base?

IMHO this has already happened. YMMV as usual...

D&D 5E Which of these settings do you want to see for D&D Next?

Good to see Birthright in the poll. It was simply the most flavorful setting ever done for any RPG. My recommendations would be (for the new edition) Birthright, Planescape and Greyhawk. Edit: had a brain fart....apparently I'm one of the only people that liked BR....oh well...

    Favorite/Hated Race - and Why?

It really depends a lot on the game world. Minotaurs (Krynn) have always been high on my list, Rjurik humans from Birthright are right up there as well. I like the Chardunni Dwarves from the Scarred Lands and all Draconians from DL, specially Sivaks. As for hated...elves, all the time...

    D&D on CNN!

Ebay makes a quite good substitute for it. I know I've been using it a lot... ;)

    D&D on CNN!

Yes, I think I do. Ten years ago people had been abandoning the game left and right (because of several reasons related both to 2E as a system and TSR's boneheaded moves), and the game wasn't attracting new players with any kind of force (at least not in my corner of the woods), which leads me...

    D&D on CNN!

I think Shemeska was pretty clear in pointing out it is not just about the internet. And that was my angle too. Sure, you might argue that if we had the volume of comments in 2000 that we have in 2010 we might have seen more of a continuity in edition warring. What I tried to point out was the...

    D&D on CNN!

Precisely. The very fact that edition wars are still going this strong after a couple of years gives the lie to the idea that this is "just another round of the same that happened after 3E was released".

    Demons, Devils, or Other?

Instant goosebumps. Greatest. Boxed. Set. Ever.

    Demons, Devils, or Other?

Yugoloths by about 2500 miles. Masterminds, manipulators (including playing both Tanar'ri and Baatezu against each other), corruptors of Celestials and mortals alike, what's not to like?

How important are demons/devils to D&D?

I find I much prefer their incarnation as Tanar'ri, Baatezu, Yugoloths and Gehreleths than I did their previous (or latest) incarnations as Demons, Devils, etc... And it has zero to do with religious matters, considering I'm an atheist. I just find the fantasy aspect for created worlds much...

    D&D + CoC

I guess the question I would pose to you is "which part of the Cthulhu paradigm do you want to emphasize?". D&D has one big problem when trying to portray horror, and that is the fact that adventurers in D&D are tough mofos. In most horror games the general idea is having adventurers that are...

    D&D + CoC

Well, I'm sorry. It's just that your original post says things like "rules that resemble D&D". I took that to mean "any" rules set that was grounded on fantasy, and not "D&D or bust". Also, I posted after reading your original post, and didn't stop to read the thread, so there's that too...

    D&D + CoC

The proper name for that is Earthdawn. Whenever I run that game, it always comes out the same. Lots of high fantasy to begin with, players all excited about discovering old ruins and treasure, lots of interesting investigation opportunities in Kaers...and then... Horrors... And the players...

How important are demons/devils to D&D?

Tanar'ri, Baatezu and Yugoloths were always very important for my games, even when I wasn't DMing Planescape. The only campaigns where they didn't feature heavily were those with good consistency reasons for them not to be present, like Dark Sun (with little to no contact with the planes) and...

Many more options than I had anticipated, awesome! I'll be sure to take a look at all of them. Thanks a lot guys.

    RPG Magazines (printed).

Are there any? I am talking about monthly, subscription-based printed magazines, not e-stuff. I really wanted to subscribe to a magazine so as to keep in touch with the market. I play mostly Cthulhu, Conan D20 and Warhammer FRPG, with my latest campaign being a Conan one that I GM about once a...

    Farewell to thee D&D

My players tend to be a little more unpredictable than yours it seems, and that's fine. I have to prepare for them and you have to prepare for yours... I guess I'll have to agree to disagree with you Guomindong. You seem to have a very different view of what the game is and you also seem to...
