D&D Encounters: Admission charge or free?

To continue my rant, i forgot the worst thing.... Most of my group doesn't bring a pencil. Sometimes one of them will have a pen. I don't like the sound of this "entitlement generation" idea. I think stuff like this happens because the players just aren't that into the game. They do encounters...

D&D Encounters: Admission charge or free?

If my store charged people to play encounters, nobody would come. I have run one group through keep on the borderlands for 19 weeks. In that time, they have learned almost no rules, bought no minis, in some cases bought NO DICE, and NONE of them own a rulebook or subscribe to DDI. And they're...

Wizard just announced [Your Dream Release]

I just want another adventure path. And minis of all the relevant NPCs. Scales of War was good, not great, but we're done with it and I'm finding myself converting pathfinder stuff for my players and it is a real pain.

Scales of War - Feedback and Advice

I just finished running the Scales of War path. I loved it and my players loved it. I agree that the heroic tier is very disjointed. And yeah the roleplaying is left up to you, but it is not too hard to set up IMO. Overlook is an awesome city and there's nothing stopping your PCs from exploring...

    D&D 4E 4E Adventures

Wow what a downer that so many people are quitting Scales of War. I just finished running the campaign a few days ago. It was awesome. The heroic tier, unfortunately, is the worst part of the whole path. It's very disjointed and the fact that they switch out the main villain for a guy they'd...

    MM3 recycled art

The Kraken art is from an old dragon magazine cover. Maybe I'm just too picky, but I hate it when they recycle art, even good stuff. And Dungeon magazine needs more art, too.

    WotC's Epic Adventures

Really? Did you run the hydra encounter in Betrayal at Monadhan? Or the desecration fight in the graveyard? That desecration was.. well, a desecration.:erm:

    WotC's Epic Adventures

They messed up damage, but the big problem in my game is that they messed up the monsters to-hit bonuses. The monsters miss all the time. And throwing lower level monsters in the mix like they routinely do in these modules is a disaster. A level 19 brute going against level 22 characters is...

    WotC's Epic Adventures

I am running E2 right now. My group has 2 PCs who started at level one, and 2 who jumped in at level 11. There are major problems with epic tier play.. at least, there are in my game. These adventures were written before a lot of these new powers and classes came out, and the PCs can make quick...

    Dungeon Magazine Annual TOC?

Out of the paragon tier Scales adventures, Stone-Skinned King is probably the one with the least involvement in the path and the one most easily used as a stand-alone. But partly for that reason, it is also the weakest of all the paragon adventures. If they needed a short one, I think Alliance...

    Dungeon Magazine Annual TOC?

I flipped through this at my store last Wednesday. In the opening, the editor talks about adventures that just missed the cut due to space issues. He wanted to get one adventure in per tier. Haven of the Bitter Glass and Last Breath of Ashenport just missed the cut. Bitter Glass is so much...

    Next Adventure Path?

Scales of War is more or less set up as three tiers of story. I think that's intended by them. The adventures also feel as if you could run any of them independent of the others. I love adventure paths and am really hoping a new one starts up in about two months. I hope Lolth is the main...

Disappointed in Dungeon, at least for adventures.

Scales of War is not perfect, and as DM you'll definitely need to roll up your sleeves and add in some details. But I've had great success with it as a whole. Overlook is awesome, Sayre is awesome, Beyond The Mottled Tower and Haven of Bitter Glass are classic, Chillreaver rules... IMO Scales...

What's the highest level your regular 4e game has reached?

When 4e first came out, I ran a converted Shackled City campaign that hit 16th level in about 33 sessions. My converted encounters were very simple, with small rooms and little terrain, so we could often do 5 encounters in a six-hour session! With that done, I started a Scales of War campaign...

Revenge of the Giants - any thoughts?

I think porting this to 1e would work ok. I'm going to put my experience running this in spoiler tags just in case... The book is laid out horribly. And there's almost no art at all. I think WOTC pays people to draw the encounter maps, which is annoying because they could just make some...

Is my DM setting us up for failure? [Minor Spoilers for Demon Queen's Enclave]

It sounds like this campaign sucks, and it's not going to change any time soon. I don't think you should sit there and stew over it. These other people playing seem to be ok with it. So it looks like your problem is that you're in a group that isn't right for you. I suggest that you begin to...

DM Rewards: Hommlet and Ship Tiles (Soilers)

One thing I believe wizards asked people to do between the time they sent Hommlet and the ship tiles, was to go to your RPGA/DCI information page and save it again. You don't have to change your address or anything, but apparently this puts you on the list of people who get stuff. Also, it...

    Female gamers: Weal or woe?

It seems like any thread about women gamers immediately turns in a bunch of guys proudly proclaiming that they play rpgs with girls and have for such a long time~! I have had more terrible experiences with female gamers than I have with males. I like lists, so here's a list of the lovely...
