Running the numbers through U_K's calcs, this was a difficult
encounter --- party has a 66% chance of victory and expected to
use 75% of the resources. It's classified as a
Henchman/Difficult scenario, a pre-BBEG/Nemesis encounter.
"It should be noted that these opponents are virtually...
Just went to the site and couldn't find it -- looked under offerings but
no Marvel stuff, unless there's some Super-Secret-S.H.I.E.L.D.-Section
of the site I'm missing. :)

This was my exact reaction to Lord of the Rings!
I don't think we're trying to convert -- just saying that you can't judge
a book by it's cover/first 100 or so pages. I started reading Tigana, and kept starting and stopping after the first 50 pages and couldn't get into it.
Finally, I got...
Yes, but the same could be said if you tried working out or eating better and gave up. A friend say "Just try it for a few more weeks and you'll see."
That's giving up. :)
To play devil's advocate (Ha! That never gets old... :o )
I can see this feeling coming on if you're not satisfied with
the products that have come out. For computer gamers, the
first Tomb Raider was cute but after the 7th rehash of the same
old junk, you might want to give up on computer...
Also remember that a monster's CR is against a party of 4 characters.
So the cleric of 12th level, without equipment as a 9.6 level character
would be highly challenged by a 9th level creature.
According to Upper_Krust's rules in Grim Tales, a character level is
equivalent to 0.8 of the skills/talents/etc and 0.2 is the equipment.
So a 5th level character without equipment is CR 4.
Haven't picked up Draconomicon so I can't speak to how great it was.
But I really enjoyed LM -- mostly because it has something for
every level -- whether you want to add on to skeletons or zombies, or
reinforcing liches. It really got me thinking about how to make
undead different, enhanced...
An excellent DM at GenCon ( I think it was Jason Little, but if I'm
wrong - don't shoot me) had an index box and had a section where
he stored all his rumors. So that in midst NPC encounter, he could
just randomly flip one and say "Y'know, some say the Devil Lich is
really a polymorphed green...
I second that! Started the first book and it's a real gem.
Donaldson's style and storytelling has matured and the
book feels just right.
And the Covenant haters are already out -- but what I liked was
in the introduction/recap part of the book, Donaldson emphasizes
(apologizes for?)...
Just saw an ad in Dragon for Ars Magicka (sp?) version 5 -- how
does that stack against EoM:r? Can EoM just plunk into 3.5
while Ars Magicka is a complete revamp? Anyone know?
thnx again,
A pity we the community couldn't finish/extend the post-Faction-War Planescape.
Or someone create the sourcebook (like Malhavoc's If Thoughts Could Kill did for psionics.) It doesn't seem fair that WOTC can sit on the copyright and let the
campaign die out...
I second the request -- would love to see a whole campaign
dedicated to the Covenant Chronicles. I like AU's meshing of
the Oathsworn and the caretaker Giants, but would love
to have the detail of the environs, creatures, classes,
wards, etc.
While playing it at GenCon, I saw a costume on-line that
looked almost exactly like Spider-man. It was close but not
exact -- isn't there a pastiche law or an allowance for something
close but not exact?
