What Game Did You Leave D&D For?

When played properly the countdown keeps players in the game very well. You just can't check out of the game in between your turns since you need to be moving and paying attention to what is happening on the battlefield in-between your action counts. But my guys...well some struggled.

What Game Did You Leave D&D For?

In theory I love HM5e initiative count system. But in play you need good players to make it flow. I didn't have that. :(

What Game Did You Leave D&D For?

I still play in a 5e game that is on 2 month hiatus. But for my game after OotA I dropped 5e for Swords and Wizardry, an OD&D clone game. Much more streamlined, minimal mods and stuff to track, and I can use any OD&D/AD&D material with it very easily. Why? 5e was too easy, I pretty much had...

    Warhammer Fantasy 4e

Flipped though it but I've still got the first two editions that will scratch any future WHFRP itch.

D&D 5E concentration in 5th edition, whats your fix?

Haven't had any issues with it in any games I've played.

    Kris' all new miniature thread

I use their washes but I only have two of their paints, a black and a white, and haven't had any issues. But 2 minutes on the shaker gets em flowing usually. These days I find the best luck with Vallejo. I used to buy a lot of reaper but their caps bust very easily and they seemed to clog up...

Questions for those who go to GaryCon.

Cool. Looking over the list there is a ton of stuff there so I don't think I'll have issues getting in games I'd like.

thanks for all the info. Saw the list of events and looking that over now. You've been a big help.

Questions for those who go to GaryCon.

Cool. I'm interested in GaryCon for the old school games, as I said earlier no desire at all to play AL or the like, and the one thread made is seem like the OS games were being pushed to the side and it was turning into every other Con dominated by the new edition. So I get worried about...

Questions for those who go to GaryCon.

Thanks for all the good info. I have zero interest in AL or honestly played 5e/PF there so that one thread got me wondering. It was a pit pissy in tone between some of the participants. I'll have to make a decision tomorrow.

Questions for those who go to GaryCon.

Reading the GC forums I'm seeing some tension between OSR and AL gamers. Is AL/PFS taking over the Con or something? I'm waiting for an Admin to approve me for posting so I can ask a few questions there.

Questions for those who go to GaryCon.

Yeah, being a fraction of the size of GenCon and more OSR focused, I've heard, really appeals to me. I'm looking for old school tourney AD&D/OD&D type gaming. Plus some mini gaming. Well run?

Questions for those who go to GaryCon.

Really thinking of getting a silver badge and heading up this year. What to expect? Is it just non stop gaming with industry legends or is that more of the myth, or more reserved for those with the really expensive badges? How is the vendor setup? A lot of stuff for sale? Is the miniature...

Crazed Gamers Celebrate 40 Years at Gen Con

that sounds pretty cool. I've always wanted to tick Gen-Con off my bucket list but its too big and expensive these days. I'm guessing GaryCon has this kind of old school tourney action as well, and probably in OD&D or 1E! In any event thanks for the article. :)

    Critical Hit Decks/Charts - I don't like 'em

IME crits in 5e are very overpowered. I added in crits in S&W and just made them a max damage hit, if I ever run 3e or 5e again I'll probably do that. Crit fumbles are amusing but often too much of a kick in the nuts.
