Gaming Pornography: Will 4th Edition lead to a more Realistic and Useful Game?

Hmm, it was my experience with oD&D through 2e that the reason "most of the game used to take place outside the narrow confines of the rules" is because they had to. The hodge-podge rules did not work. When I play a non-diceless game, I hope that when it comes time for system-work, that the...

Gaming Pornography: Will 4th Edition lead to a more Realistic and Useful Game?

Wow, I really hope you are disappointed. No offense but I NEVER (even in '79 when I started playing) considered D&D REALISTIC. Never. D&D is its own weird, sometimes silly, fantasy RPG genre. If the game designers are successful they will amp up the D&Dness of the line, not its basis in reality.

    White Wolf and CCP merge...

I agree. Steve Jobs once said that Apple's success is not and must not be tied to Microsoft's failure. He was and is correct. If you construct an us-vs.-them scenario with PnP vs. Video well, it's going to look bleak. It's also a false dilemma. While there are obviously some folks who gave up...

    D&D 4E Ryan Dancey on 4E

Wrong. This confuses the goal with the means. The goal is a fun night of gaming. This frames the arguement in adversarial light, players vs. DM. I don't buy into that.

    D&D 4E Ryan Dancey on 4E

Man, I am getting tired of all this chest-thumping and whining. RANT FOLLOWS I got to tell you I don't buy gaming products I don't want to buy. Neither should you. So all this carping about "greedy" game companies is just CRAP on soooo many levels. Don't like it? Don't buy it! Game...

Vampire: The Requiem blurb in Previews

One of the reasons for both D&D and WoD's success is that the games can be played on all levels and are played on all levels. I've seen to many V:tM players who love to get on a high horse about their mad roleplayn' skilz and then two seconds later are talking about how they offed a roomful of...

    Players stuck is 2ed

You are going to have to talk with him. Maybe try putting it like this. (I'm pulling the name "Greg" out of the hat here.) "Greg there are some problems with the game and I need your imput to fix them. My enjoyment of the game has been declining and I can see that you are not satisfied. We...

    Has 3.5E "failed"?

I would say a big "NO" on both counts. Game revision is natural and healthy, once every 3-5+ years will be the norm for D&D from now on. That has been the way of things for HEALTHY game systems for years. WW had 3-4 revisions, Warhammer's gone through 6, Cthulhu 4-5. I think the root of a lot...

    Magical Defenses 101

I am running a game with 13th level characters who are running into 10 -16+ npcs on a regular basis. I think I do okay running the combats at this level of play, although I have not done anything this high since the 1st ed. My lack of experience playing at this level has led me to believe that I...
