Will the Cleric still be an absolute requirement for a party?

I'm hoping that a lesser healer type can expend all their per-encounter and daily resources keeping people alive if need be. That way in the harder fights, they can turn their attention to the critical matters while the damage dealers do their thing. Sounds a lot like an MMORPG, I know, but I...

D&D 4E Manticores will have beards again in 4E

I hope minotaurs actually look like bulls again instead of horned pekingese. The manticore's tail could stand to be more spikey.

D&D 3E/3.5 Fond Memories of ENWorld and the 3E Launch

Oh, so that's why it's EN :) I usually came here for the reviews and conversions and not much else. I've found, though, that the 4E discussions here seem more productive. So I come here for everyone's take on the latest news and rumors.

Will "killing X and taking its stuff" jump the shark?

Maybe the shark will kill X and jump its stuff. Er, well... yeah.

D&D 4E 4E: Talent trees, class features or both?

I like the idea of putting class features into talent trees. It allows for a lot more combinations. At that point I assume the PHB will give suggestions on how to build the core classes from 3e using the talent trees from 4e. Of course, you might instead want a raging archer...

D&D 4E New in 4E: EN World to be renamed "Eeee Ennn World"

If it delivers on its hype, I'll buy it. I might wait for reviews first, though.

D&D 4E Your habits, considering 4e is coming

Given that I have no playtime at this point, I've been collecting and reading through interesting adventure material. I picked up a couple Expeditions, the Cormyr/Shadowdale books, and looking at Savage Tide. I suspect not much will change with the release of 4e even if I'm playing at the...

    Critical Hit with Fireball!

I want a warlord/wizard that crits with a fireball before the bad guy can act. Maybe they can only crit if you strike the target directly, and everyone else just takes splash damage (yeah, er, what he said)?

    Will you subscribe to DDI?

Probably. The online material will be a boon. However, I refuse to buy online miniatures. The game table should have enough of a variety of available resources for DMs to run a campaign. If it doesn't, then I won't be using it.

    New playtest report 9/20...

The idea of reinterpreting characters instead of converting them sounds pretty much like what I expected. We won't be able to convert directly, but we should be able to come up with something reasonably similar except for the most exotic abilities in current supplements. Also, I couldn't help...

    Confirmed: No Warforged in PHB!

It's at least nice to know there will be a "monsters as PC" section in the MM. It's also probably a plus that the main monster blocks won't be cluttered up with the "as PC" info.

Say you are selected for PLAYTEST...

Of course, if only to make the playtest process as unproductive as possible. If I were that way.

D&D 4E Poll: Turning Undead in 4E...how should it work?

To me, turning undead has always been a contest between cleric level and undead HD (even if the 1e-2e version was table based, it was still a progression of cleric level vs. undead HD). A simpler formula that doesn't require a table lookup would be nice (you can still turn the 3e version into a...

D&D 4E Is 4E winning you or losing you?

At first I was resenting all the overhype and non-answers. Now that I've found some places to get hints of info about it (staff blogs) without waiting for Wizards to toss bones out on their main page, and had a chance to participate in discussions, it's got me positively curious. I'll be...

Familiars and Animal Companions. Should they stay?

I haven't played or DMed familiars much, but I can see where they would have their uses with innate scrying and delivery of touch spells. They seem to be a worthwhile component. Exotic ones should be hard to come by, but hte basic ones should be easy enough to summon. Animal companions are a...

What is your top question/concern about 4th edition?

I guess my question is more about conversion: Will 4e allow me to make characters that at least function similarly (signature abilities) to all the exist 3e classes (not prestige)? Particularly the off classes: barbarian, ranger, paladin, druid, sorceror, bard.

    D&D 3E/3.5 If 3.5 was so good...

3.5 was what I had to work with, and I was willing to see what it could do, and watch the game mechanics evolve as characters raised in levels. As has been already mentioned, the problems with 3.5 include: * The sweet spot for characters is in the 7-13 range. Outside of that, the mechanics...

New Core Rulebooks Every Year - A Mistake

Unless I get heavily inspired, it's not likely I'll delve deeply into 4e in the first few months anyway. At this early stage, it doesn't sound like Wizards is focusing a lot on releasing many adventures soon after release (I like purchasing adventures, they give me more inspiration then other...
