D&D 4E An Olive Branch to 4e Fans: Some Things 5e Should Take From 4e

I would just like to add emphasis to the removal of level drain -- hate it as a DM and (if possible) even more so as a player. One hit from a level draining monster and hears hoping you keep a charaacter sheet for every level. Huge pain in the butt and to be honest never fun for the player.

Skills - what is your preference

I like skills -- that is the simple truth of the matter. To be perfectly honest D & D could go even further down the skills road than it ever has and I would be happy. For me it is the addition and variety of skill that give a class based system the ability to make characters more unique...

Your D&D edition is not a football team

What no love for the Cowboys or Texans? (just noticied a lot of Texas support there except for the NFL -- kinda curious)

Which team will win Super Bowl XLVI?

The Giants have a far better overall team. I can see Brady having some success with against the Giants but Manning should shred what is one of the worst secondaries in the league. The Giants have the tools to get Brady out of his comfort zone. If you can force him out of the pocket he is an...

    D&D 5E 5E Core Classes - According to Enworld

yup interesting indeed. It would seem that we are a fairly traditional bunch

    Making DnDN Popular

Instead of making stabby eyes at them you can tell them they are not welcome at your table. I have done this and it doesn't always make me popular. In order to support our industry we need to police it ourselves unless we thnk we will like the results that we get when others police it for us...

    Alcatraz

Finally got around to watching and I was pleasantly surprised. Moved along at a good clip and kept my interest. It looks to have good potential. Remains to be seen what they do with it.

Interlace your fingers into a double fist

Interesting and perhaps a bit odd. If I do it without thinking I always link them together with my left hand above my right hand. I am also right handed. I'm not sure how relevant my handedness is to this though as I have never been sure that I am a natural right hander. I am left footed and...

Point Buy -- more than just for attributes

I have been thinking about the different ways that WOTC can come through with their proposed idea of "One Edition to Unite Them All" and I am wondering if we are going to be seeing something that is going to lean very heavily, if not exclusively, on a point buy system. I haven't fully...

    Should point buy be discouraged?

I don't want to have to oversee my players either - so I don't. I know it is one of those things that most DMs seem to want to do but I have never understood. I trust them to follow the guidelines we have set out for character generation without me hovering over them. If I can't trust them...

How does EN Publishing feel WotC announcement?

I am pleased to hear that Zeitgeist will be finished in 4E (I had pretty much assumed it would be so). My question is how will this affect the release of Santiago? Are you now going to put this on hold? I am hoping the answer is no. I have to admit I was tempted into a Silver Subscription...

    D&D 5E I Hope I Hate 5e

I hear you! I have to admit there is more than a small part of me that hopes 5N is a huge disappointment to me so that I will not be tempted to jump back on that crazy train of gotta buuy the new stuff. Sometimes I wish I had stayed with OD&D (well no not really but sorta). I have always been...

D&D 5E Should 5e have save or die?

Sorry wasn't very coherent earlier --- the problem with trying to work and follow/read forums. You are of course correct -- who rolls the die doesn't change things --- to be honest I am not sure where I was going with that train but it certainly ended up off the tracks. I am pleased with the...

D&D 5E Should 5e have save or die?

For me Save or Die/Suck is the deal breaker. I have always hated saves in general and the SOD/S the most of all. I am okay with the way that 4th Ed has changed most of the previously saved against effects to attacks against a particular defense. I am also okay with the effects of successful...

    Class Balance - why?

Okay fair enough -- you make a valid point regarding there being a need for some reference to earlier editions. Now as to a balance -- I am in complete agreement that balance doesn't only have to be a combat thing and that balance can come in the form of skill benefits or other areas. That...

    Class Balance - why?

I won't argue that there is a cost associated with game balance and I also agree that it is not easy to create balanced classes that have a suffiently different feel. I don't currently have all the answers as to how this can be done, however the people designing these games do this for a...

Save or Die, would it bother you as a player if

If SOD/S has to be there then it should be the same for all -- I am not a fan of the variable idea at all - not even if there is a matching risk/reward ratio.
