It's a trap! Builds that seem good, but...

It doesn't seem like a trap when I can do 8d6 once each round, no. And my mentioning using it with Spring Attack was a mistake -- I know better. It can't be. I don't think Vital Strike can be combined with any feat currently existing in PF other than Power Attack, and a couple new feats...

It's a trap! Builds that seem good, but...

That makes sense ... but over on the Paizo messageboards, Vital Strike is so regularly given the "trap" label that I genuinely began to think the label is losing its value. Which is why I brought it up. I won't be flying anytime soon, but the rest of it I'm trying to do. My current idea is a...

It's a trap! Builds that seem good, but...

My issue with the "trap" label is that the people using the label don't seem to be of one mind. For some players, a "trap" is any option that is not going to work in an optimal builds. In other words, if there's ever a better choice, then all the "not as good" choices are automatically traps...

    Animal Companion Questions

I keep seeing this "trap" description applied to various character choices. Is it code for "not a choice that works with min/maxing and munchkin builds"? A way to describe options that are really only good for roleplaying purposes? Or just something people call things they don't personally...

Throwing teammates (as a tactic vs flying enemies)

I'm not really getting the impression you want to hear anything except a specific answer to your question; your defensiveness in responding to some perfectly acceptable suggestions is rather telling. So instead, I have only one flaw in your original post's logic to point out: Unless the...

Pathfinder 1E Paizo Announces More Details about Minis Line

Not for me I'll be happy if the line proves profitable for Paizo, and if there are a lot of players out there who enjoy the set ... but my days of buying randomized items are long gone. Earning the money I'll have to pay was hard enough: when I spend it, I want exactly what I want. Once...

Could Wizards ACTUALLY make MOST people happy with a new edition?

WotC did. That's what 4th Edition is about. The jury is clearly out on whether it worked or not. My bet is on "didn't work", but we may not know for years.

Could Wizards ACTUALLY make MOST people happy with a new edition?

No. All the other "no" or "doubtful" votes have made all the good points already.

Do you take gaming awards seriously?

I really pay attention to the Spiel Des Jahres, the award given for board game excellence. By the time I started to pay attention to which games had won this award, I ended up finding out I already owned and enjoyed several on the list. Awards for RPGs and the like don't mean anything to me.

    Interesting Tweet

I've moved on to such a degree, with WotC never going to be a part of my life again, that seeing the combination of "Wizards of the Coast" and "interesting" immediately struck me as contradictory. Kinda agree with the one-word response a few posts back, but ... even if it is true, my response...

    Where is the Factotum?

Nice try, but that would only work with a DM who decides to not use logic or ignore RAI all together ... why would the spells you cast before FOR the upcoming fight with the dragon be part of a "different" encounter? I certainly wouldn't allow that. I'd want very much to know why you're...

    Intimidate

Just to point out: there is no skill that you could have used to stop this event from happening. Skills are not all-powerful like spells are, and don't bring finality to a situation like weapons do. Diplomacy would not have made any difference, either. In fact, using Diplomacy to attempt to...

    Intimidate

I'm correcting you. But gently. I believe you're confusing -- understandably so -- the two DIFFERENT uses of Intimidate into one, and unfortunately the two can't be married. Intimidate does one of two things, which you choose at the time of using: demoralizes opponents, and Influences the...

Does anyone grow their characters organically anymore?

I was in the exact same boat for my paladin. We just ended our 3.5 campaign, and I ended at 16th level. When I started out, all I knew is I wanted to take 1 level of Sorcerer and then become a Paladin. Everything that happened to my character after that came about over the course of time and...

    Captain America: The First Avenger

Uh ... Ed, they gave other countries the option to rename the movie to just "The First Avenger", so as to drop the word 'America' from the film.

    First Adventure

Just to be clear, "We Be Goblins" was a free adventure released for Free RPG day, and all players play a goblin undergoing the adventure. If you think this is something your players would enjoy, then you can certainly run them through it, but RP-wise, it's going to have zero bearing on what...
