    Describing the Different D&D Editions

OD&D = Gonzo Fun AD&D = Gonzo Fun with a few new options and more non-combat stuff 2e = Rules all over the place, lots of add-ons, still gonzo fun 3.X/PF = Cleaned up the rules to be consistent but lost some gonzo fun in favor of trying to balance things out. 4e = Trying to bring back the gonzo...

False dichotomies and other fallacies RPGers use

See I used to think gamers were more intelligent, then I met enough of them (going to cons) to realize no they aren't. Many don't read for pleasure, heck some of them have not even read the rule book they own for the game they play every week. You could argue that GMs maybe are more intelligent...

Its not technically out yet but Cavalier? Cavalier - Final Playtest Version (Pathfinder_OGC)

False dichotomies and other fallacies RPGers use

Fallacy - % dice systems have a bell curve because you roll 2 dice. And for my second one - Gamers are smarter than other people (if this were true the previous fallacy wouldn't come up soo often)

    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5/Pathfinder WITH minis WITHOUT grid/hex

Lay down some felt, use terrain from warhammer and such. Now declare what your going to do before you do it, then measure with a tape measure and see if it worked out for you :) just options take and leave what you want from it.

What are the worst classic D&D adventure modules?

IIRC its DL4...Because we used to play DL1-3 every Christmas holiday and we died a lot, destroyed Haven a few times, and generally ran amok before finding the temple. (even tried to attack the elves and unicorn)

Pathfinder 1E Learning Pathfinder - help!

Just one idea is to have them create characters way ahead of time. Then you can read up on what their characters can do and make an appropriate adventure.

Temple of Elemental Evil - expectations

IIRC T1 was 80% the Village. It had plenty of side quests and npcs to fill your time BEFORE you went to the moat house. The moat house also wasn't too long.

    Which "new" adventures are classics?

I think when you talk about 3e classics your really only going to get a majority of players who say the Sunless Citadel and The Red Hand of Doom. There are some other great ones from 3rd parties but I think rarely did you have enough people playing the same ones to become as popular as Keep on...

Please help me find a new gaming system!

The standard affair Runequest, Harp, GURPS, Warhammer, and Savage Worlds More odd ball recommendations Witchhunter & Desolation. Both of these use dice pools and both of which have some balance issues but the math is simple and the combat is quick and fun.

What are the worst classic D&D adventure modules?

I would just add DL1-3 are incredibly good for ideas on how to run world events vs character events if your willing to sit down and take the time to reorganize the whole thing. Rather than choose your own adventure, read each section and tie it in to all the other possibilities for that section...

What are the worst classic D&D adventure modules?

Depends on how you run it, if you give the staff to a PC as back-story (rather than run it with an npc) you can run it 100 different times and never have the PCs do the same thing. The first 3 DL aren't nearly as bad IMHO as the later ones. I think DL1 railroad can be boiled down to 1. poor...

    Desert Island RPG

    1. Desolation 2. Dark Ages Vampire 3. Shadowrun 3e 4. Witchhunter: The Invisible War 5. GURPS 3e Disclaimer, I tried to pick games where I could get a lot of mileage out of a single core book.

Perfect Combat System? Not too short, not too long, but just right?

Don't do it! Seriously hear me out, keep playing your 3.5 game, set aside oh say $100 for pdfs read up on reviews of different games. Buy some pdfs of games that sound interesting mechanically. Figure out which one you like best then run an old adventure like Keep on the Boarderlands in the new...

What games from the early 80's are still being published?

No, but I think Star Wars would fall under this thus d6 changing to d20 would not count because of "radical changes" and while the d6 system is still around its no longer Star Wars. [Edit] Otherwise you could say MERPS lives on because of Rolemaster, yet you cant buy new MERPS books.

Giving Players a peek behind the DM screen

Hopefully they figured it out on their own. If not sometimes they may get a sneak peek. If it didn't come out in game then yes. I have played through entire campaigns where the story was hidden and we all had WTF moment at the end. The DM thought the story had come out in play but none of us...

d20 vs. 3d6 "dice heresy" by Chris Sims

The problem with the d20 and misses is that the d20 counts for too much. If you used a single d10 and scaled the difficulties for a d10 your stats would matter much more. Likewise if you raised the stats to count for more the d20 wouldn't alter the success level as much. If a first level...
