D&D 5E What needs to be fixed in 5E?

My current ideas are 1. less conditions and make them meaningful 2. no 1/2 level to skills, make it 3.5 with less skills and training, use the 4e skill list plus profession X, to cover any skill not on the list. 3. Remove feats 4. Make the math around the average fight should be 3 rounds, only...

    1 minute combat rounds

We used to roll a d4 to see how many arrows you fired in the 1 min. It got a bit strange when you got multiple attacks and you rolled less arrows than you hit with, i dont remember how we handled that.

The Really Interesting Hypothetical (RE: 3e/4e/5e)

if 4e had been OGL still I doubt Pathfinder would exist. Instead you would have 4e variant players handbooks and retro clones. 3e had a ton of great 3rd party support by the end of it and it was easy to get new players into because they could live with the SRD and not forced into buying...

Does anybody else hate the Point Buy Sell Off?

Not really, we still roll our attributes and hit point. Right now my level 2 half-elf bard has a STR 11, DEX 16, CON 9, INT 11, WIS 6, CHA 15. I really enjoy the challenge of not having attribute scores I want. So I dont mind the "sell off" part of point buy.

I don't get the dislike of healing surges

This didn't really happen in 2e... you rolled HP so on average a fighter is gaining 5 or 6 HP per level + CON (1 HP fighters at first level were uncommon but fun!). Then at 9th level you were only gaining 1HP + CON mod. And if you were not a "fighter" type after 9th level you were gaining 1HP...

What is your "perfect" sized gaming group?

    Depends on the game but generally 3-5 PCs D&D = 5 Shadowrun = 4 Vampire = 3

Tome of Horrors getting a second print run...

They picked a horrible time for me with the original announcement. I just shelled out $100 to pre-order V20 and days later they announced ToH, I was still suffering sticker shock from V20.

    The biggest RPGs

WOD (as a line) got really close a couple years in the 90s, really really close.

Tier list for PF classes, or summary of each?

In my experience it breaks down like this, granted I have not played all of them so some of them may be better than I thought after watching other people play them. (power rating + to +++++) Tier 1 [does everything well] - Cleric(++++), Druid(+++++), Wizard(++++), Tier 2 [does multiple things...

Poll: Which Systems are you playing or have played in the last year?

Why are there multiple editions of D&D but not other systems? In 2011 we have played D&D 4e Pathfinder Desolation Vampire the Masquerade: Revised Shadowrun 4e and we will be playing Shadowrun 3e Mage the Awakening

An Evil Game . . Sorta

If I wanted to make the PCs the bad guys I would borrow from the 7 samurai and have them hired to protect a "defenseless" village from "bandits". When in reality the village is full of necromancers who are stealing life from the lands remotely. The bandits are a group of heroes sent to put a...

What is in the ultimate system?

If Ubiquity would rebalance and have different costs to the talents that would be my ultimate system from a pure mechanics stand point.

Pathfinder 1E Could Pathfinder take D&D's place...

well based on what I saw at the penny arcade expo (which is a primarily video game con) WOTC dominated for number of tables but the lines were short if they existed at all. Pazio had less table space but you always had to wait a few min for a demo. I think that makes it close to even. Pathfinder...

Call of Cthulhu vs World of Darkness

Pot calling Kettle? You chose Hunter's Hunted as your example! I'm well aware of nWOD but both nWOD and cWOD are World of Darkness. [edit] and if you want to get into details about it VtM is available POD and the new V20 version (and werewolf soon to follow) so that makes cWOD more nWOD than...

Call of Cthulhu vs World of Darkness

You could but it was a supplement, like Dark Ages Mage, you needed the Vampire book in order to have the core rules. I can't just pickup up Complete Warrior and have a D&D game, I need the Players Handbook. Thus why WOD represents the whole line not just mortals.

Call of Cthulhu vs World of Darkness

WOD can be a horror game, but its more along the lines of "what have I done" than "ack zombies". Your Jack in the Shinning as opposed to playing his family. Its about fighting your own nature less you fall into darkness. I think mostly its not played that way though.

    Post Apocalyptic RPGS?

I wouldn't say its dominate but my favorite is Desolation Desolation, A Post-Apocalyptic Fantasy Roleplaying Game from Greymalkin Designs For me it was too much D&D not enough Tolkien. I think its much more Iuz conquers Greyhawk than Sauron conquers Middle Earth. The rules also were very...

Could Wizards ACTUALLY make MOST people happy with a new edition?

This is exactly what I don't want... Come on, when I was 12 we did most of our RPG playing while camping... Not exactly internet friendly. Boy I don't even know where to begin on your other post. On the first thing I quoted, the down sides of PDFs would then be the same downsides of DDI. On...
