    D&D 5E Basic Rules Update?

Our DM, who attended Gamehole Con, said that WotC will update the basic rules sometime in January.

D&D 5E Enhancing "Hoard of the Dragon Queen" (Practical stuff to try at your table!)

Download the fan compiled errata and clarifications from here: http://rpggeek.com/filepage/109184/errata-and-clarifications-fan-compiled The blogs Sly Flourish, Merric's Musings, and Hack & Slash have helpful blog posts for running episodes of the adventure. I'm sure they contain a lot of good...

New 5E Adventures Coming From Goodman Games

Perhaps a better comparison would be the Pathfinder modules, which are 32 pages and appear to cost $10 for the PDF versions. Goodman Games 5e adventures are still twice as much money per page.

New 5E Adventures Coming From Goodman Games

Sixteen page adventures for $10 each is way too high of a price. I'm sure they are good quality adventures, but the price seems ridiculous when an equivalent 96 page adventure would cost $60! For a comparison you can buy a 96 page Pathfinder Adventure Path PDF, which are among the best in the...

D&D 5E The Rise of Tiamat Can Be A Independent Adventure?

Why would any group choose to start a campaign half way through the storyline instead of starting from the beginning? If you're going to play Tyranny of the Dragons, run 'Hoard of the Dragon Queen' first and then as a group decide if you want to continue onto 'The Rise of Tiamat'.

Roll20 publishes Game Percentages... Pathfinder at 25%

How often do players utilize these tools for RPGs that are largely played via theater of the mind? It seems that these statistics would be heavily skewed towards RPGs that require a grid to play.

D&D 5E How We Beat the HD, HotDQ, Spoilers

Why would Cyanwrath choose not to use his most powerful attack to win a duel? Doesn't it make sense that he would if he wanted to ensure that he would win the duel? Anyway, I agree with you that the DM doesn't have to use it...I was merely pointing out that Steve Winter is wrong when he said...

D&D 5E How We Beat the HD, HotDQ, Spoilers

But the dragon is actively attacking and killing the soldiers so it doesn't seem like simply a ploy to keep the adventurers inside the keep. Also, if the NPCs are an 'annoyance' then why wouldn't the dragon kill them the first chance he gets? If they can be easily killed then why would he not...

D&D 5E How We Beat the HD, HotDQ, Spoilers

Thanks for finding that Wrathamon. Quite interesting to see Steve's thoughts on how he believes it should be run. I still disagree with him on these points though: The book states that "the dragon launches a final assault against the citadel. Frulam Mondath orders the attack, knowing that the...

    D&D 5E 5e XP Chart Progression Question

That's exactly right. Darrius_Adler, your chart assumes that in every encounter the party will be fighting against a single monster. If you increase the amount of monsters in the encounters, the encounter difficulty scales up by the 'Encounter XP Modifiers', but the XP earned does not get...

D&D 5E How We Beat the HD, HotDQ, Spoilers

I couldn't agree more. Not everyone is going to play a character who thinks running into small town overwhelmed with kobolds, cultists, and a huge dragon flying overhead is a smart idea. Not every character is willing to die to save some helpless villagers. It would make more sense to run...

D&D 5E Inappropriate breasts on female monsters

Dude. I pointed that out because Crothian mentioned four characteristics and of those four breasts were the only example that was completely alien to dragons (edit: I guess having no tail also counts). Besides, saying 'everything goes' just because it is fantasy is a huge cop-out. Are we not...

D&D 5E Inappropriate breasts on female monsters

Last time I checked reptiles don't have mammary glands to feed their young . If they are descended/evolved from dragons it doesn't make any sense for them to have breasts or nipples (unless the dragons are giving birth to live young and nursing them like a mammal). Interestingly I found...

D&D 5E Inappropriate breasts on female monsters

Yes, I would definitely be fine with the male gender being changed also. Why would I be unwilling to play a character that does not mirror my real life physical characteristics?

D&D 5E Inappropriate breasts on female monsters

I agree Elderbrain. I think it's just second nature for artists to draw anything that looks somewhat like a human with the defining human characteristics (male = larger/muscular, female = breasts). I would love it if the artists were more creative and thought outside of human characteristics...

D&D 5E First Session of HotDQ - WOW, what a meatgrinder

How do you think your party would have fared if 2/3 of your party had not specialized in stealth? Unfortunately if a group has a bunch of players that have disadvantage on their stealth checks they would probably end up fighting every random encounter with no surprise rounds in their benefit...

D&D 5E First Session of HotDQ - WOW, what a meatgrinder

Actually, that is not possible if it's run as written. I posted this in post #47 (perhaps you didn't see that post): I really don't think there's as many allowances as you make it seem (especially in Encounters). I invite you to respond to my post #47 in this thread. If players aren't...

D&D 5E First Session of HotDQ - WOW, what a meatgrinder

What RPG do you play that is actually fun to play with 11 people in one party? It's hard for me to imagine playing with a group that large and having a good time too. I wholeheartedly agree with Joe Liker. Even if you do scale the adventure up to challenge a party size of 11, it will not be...
