    Possible Multiclassing Fix

That's a good point. And, setting up for the second feat, you might want to allow a 1/1/1 to take the first feat at 3rd. So yeah, change the prerequisites to "levels in at least 2 base classes." The idea is that your Paladin training continues even while you're taking levels in Fighter-- just...

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5e] Favorite non-Core Base Classes

Warlock, though I almost always go multicaster with him. I like Marshal and Dragon Shaman in Gestalt games, but otherwise no. Shugenja is my favorite spellcaster. Period.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder: Which books do you use?

Well, I just switched from D&D 3.5 with heavy Pathfinder house rule influence to Pathfinder with a lot of D&D 3.5 supplements... and now it looks like I might be putting my game off near-indefinitely until I can find players. And I'll be running something else, online. In HARP.

    Possible Multiclassing Fix

A lot of thought has gone into the issue of multiclassing in 3e. There seems to be two kinds of basic multiclassing in 3e: one main class with one or more dips to get good early-level abilities from other classes, and staying more or less even in two base classes and sucking until you qualify...

    Subtle Rule Changes

I believe Pathfinder assumes that characters with the requisite character level-- whether casters or Master Craftsmen-- are considerably rarer, and that the source of most magic items will either be the PCs themselves, or figures similar to the PCs from earlier generations.

    Best Assassin Build

Rogue 4/Swashbuckler 3/Assassin 9/Unseen Seer 1/Avenging Executioner 3. Daring Outlaw, TWF, ITWF, GTWF, Deadly Precision, Poison Expert, Poison Master, Darkstalker. Standard tactic is to cast disguise self until close to target, hide in plain sight, cast greater invisibility, poison your...

    Need Fighter/Rogue Gestalt

Spellcaster + Spellcaster is even worse. I saw an elegant solution on the Paizo boards though, as a replacement for things like the Mystic Theurge. One feat that functionally replaces all of the Ascetic/Devoted/Stalker feats from Complete Adventurer and Complete Scoundrel. Pick two base...

    Need Fighter/Rogue Gestalt

Spotted the problem. The class progressions in Dragon #310? They're not for Gestalt characters, because they predate Unearthed Arcana. Those are standard multiclassing progressions, where the character picks a single class at each level. Are you just now switching from 1e or 2e, or even from 4e?

    Need Fighter/Rogue Gestalt

If you're core only, Ranger is your best bet for fighting (use singing for your Bardic Music and build archer) and Sorcerer for spellcasting. If you're looking to improve your skill use, you're probably better off playing a Rogue/Sorcerer instead. With any of the Sorcerer builds, break for...

Good Alternatives to Druids and Wildshaping?

Means that the Shaman is essentially a class that serves partially as a stripped down Cleric and partially as a stripped down Monk. In a Gestalt environment, it either ends up sacrificing too many of its abilities to overlap or being too powerful when combined with one of the classes it's...

Good Alternatives to Druids and Wildshaping?

It isn't a fixed list. They're chosen from a list, and there are considerably more options that there are opportunities to select them. And the reason they're not just spells is so that the Druid has to waste neither prepared spells nor spell slots on them-- unless he needs to apply them to...

Zendikar: The greatest D&D setting never published

Damned disheartening. Twenty-five years after Oriental Adventures, twenty years after Final Fantasy, and pastiches of Fantasy Japan are still "exotic" and there are still people complaining that Monks and Ninja don't have any place in "fantasy" settings.

Good Alternatives to Druids and Wildshaping?

Yeah, but Gestalt. And the OA Shaman always felt more like a Cleric to me. Those sound like good ideas. I'll look into them. I had a burst of inspiration today and have nearly finished one possible version of the Druid-- which was, indeed, inspired by the Geomancer and the Aspects of Nature...

    Need Fighter/Rogue Gestalt

Do you want a viable 20/20 build, or a general "Fighter/Rogue" concept build, or an explanation of how a Gestalt Fighter/Rogue would look over 20 levels? Basically, if you're not multiclassing, you can treat any particular Gestalt combination as a ridiculously overpowered single class. A...

Good Alternatives to Druids and Wildshaping?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to start looking into this Shaman business, starting with what I have in Oriental Adventures. Worst case scenario, I can accept shapeshifting as a disturbingly common power and use the Shapeshifting variant.

Good Alternatives to Druids and Wildshaping?

A little background. I'm planning on running a d20 game after a couple of years of swearing off the stuff. I'm using a heavily house-ruled combination of D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder rules, and I am using the Gestalt rule variant from Unearthed Arcana. I wish to preserve the Druid role of a divine...

How do you become a god?

Really depends on the setting, and what "god" means in that setting. Most of the time, I favor the idea that the only real proof of the gods is the Clerics themselves, with the existence of godless Clerics (however rare) being seen more as an aberration than a compelling counter-argument...

Alternative rules systems for a Dark Sun game?

I've seen a couple of already well-polished Rolemaster conversions. The level of realism and the brutality of the combat system are well suited to the harsh life on Athas. HARP would be good with the right combat options. Just make sure to pick up Martial Law and make sure to impose all of the...

    Points to note...

Well, my experience is different from the others in this thread. I'm not running a Pathfinder game, I'm liberally borrowing rules from Pathfinder for my heavily modified 3.5 game. I'm borrowing a lot. I'm adopting most of the extra class features wholesale and modifying my non-core classes...

    Half-(orc,elf,hafling,dwarf,etc.) templates

I would go with the assumption that non-humans simply are not interfertile, and the reason there's so many half-humans is that humans are like dragons and outsiders in that they are capable of breeding with almost anything. Thus, dragons and outsiders have templates for breeding with things...
