D&D 5E Magic Intiative Feat question

Dang now I want to make a Magic Initiative feat where you burn a spell slot or something to go first in combat.

    D&D 5E Hex Shenanigans

Yes I think we all agree that the reason for jumping matters. If the player says they are committing suicide, I think we all would say they die. The question is, is it fair for the DM to decide that the character is committing suicide, even if the player says otherwise? Or: who decides what the...

    D&D 5E Hex Shenanigans

That's not the impression I mean to give. I don't think that chickens are creatures for the purpose of hex, and in fact I don't think there is any sensible way to give an all-purpose definition of "creature" given the rules. @Arial Black seems to disagree with me on this, although we agree about...

    D&D 5E Hex Shenanigans

Right, and your assumption seems to be that if a player doesn't explicitly explain his motivations any time he does something, then he is playing a game token. At least that is the impression you continue to give; I can't quite believe that is really how you would play.

    D&D 5E Hex Shenanigans

Sorry, but nowhere in your example does it suggest or imply that the fighter is jumping down the cliff for no reason. In fact, given that he doesn't have time to wait for feather fall, it rather seems that he has some reason to get down the cliff quickly.

    D&D 5E Hex Shenanigans

I don't think this condition was made clearly enough, and I'm not sure that you're speaking for everyone here.

    D&D 5E Hex Shenanigans

Cool then we are maybe thinking the same. If a character actually tries to hurt themselves, then we don't have to stick to the normal injury rules. But we don't assume that a character is trying to hurt themselves without something telling us so pretty explicitly. I think that is it the second...

    D&D 5E Hex Shenanigans

I don't myself have any disagreement with this. The difference is that I'm willing to assume players have good reasons for what they want to do, unless something specifically suggests otherwise. I don't feel any need to grill a player about the details of their motivations if it isn't central to...

    D&D 5E Feat: Spellfist

I think this will be too good for a warlock built around melee eldritch blast. You're quickly getting up to 1d10+1d4+2xCha = 18 damage per blast. For any other character I think it will be too weak; there aren't enough spells with multiple attack roles for a martial character to take good...

    D&D 5E Hex Shenanigans

Well perhaps the origin of the dispute here is only that some of us would like to hear that explicitly stated, while others would just assume that is what is going on unless they are told otherwise. Which really isn't all that much difference to get excited about.

    D&D 5E Hex Shenanigans

Or maybe this is what you're really after? "Dang the BBEG is down at the bottom of the 200 ft chasm, getting away! I'm going to try to hop down the side of the cliff, landing on footholds where I can, but getting to the bottom as fast as possible." vs "I'm going to jump down the cliff and catch...

    D&D 5E Hex Shenanigans

At what point did someone say they were swan diving? The original concept was just "jumping off a cliff."

Unearthed Arcana Revived, Noble Genie and Archivist Revisited in UA

Ah I see, but I think its fair to take the save benefits as the meat, and the token mechanism itself as more a flavor thing. I understand if that doesn't float your boat thought.

You saw it grants basically permanent advantage on Con saves and death saves? I think that is the main benefit and it is pretty good.

D&D 5E It is OK for a class to be the worst

... I read his comment as more like "truest," which I don't think is offensive in the way you're taking it.

D&D 5E It is OK for a class to be the worst

I do more or less agree. I guess my feeling is that the PHB ranger is good enough, just not as good as it could be. (For some value of "good".)

Unearthed Arcana Revived, Noble Genie and Archivist Revisited in UA

These are pretty cool. But they should have made it so a rogue could collect a soul token by defeating an opponent in a game :)

D&D 5E It is OK for a class to be the worst

I'm not surprised that the plain BM ranger would be fun to play... its not nearly so bad to be unusable. But almost everybody does at least a little theorizing and optimizing when they think about their character, and it can be annoying when you feel like you've got the short end of the stick...

D&D 5E It is OK for a class to be the worst

Well, I'll say I think ranger is the worst 5e class, in part because it is weak but also because I think it has a lot of poor design choices. The combination of both is what made me want to rebuild it.

    D&D 5E All weapons doing d6?

Just to note, these are the 3e stats you're talking about. 3e had I think the most weapon differentiation of any dnd edition. (Unless you actually used the AD&D weapon vs armor tables.)
