    Wish & Miracle?

They don't exist. Some of the old effects can be found in rituals. You can bind demons/planar entities, break curses, raise the dead, magically generate castles, create floating islands, chat with your god, plane shift, turn into a lich, wipe someone's memory, teleport anywhere in creation...

Amazon listing for the Book of Vile Darkness

Maybe, if we are lucky, this book will sell well and they will decide to release its companion, The Book of Exalted Deeds. That could be a lot like a Divine Power 2 but with a catchier title.

    Rule of Three 3/11/11

I was just going with the precedent set by the feat. I doubt it would be a problem to change it to a free action like you said though.

    Rule of Three 3/11/11

Just add the following lines to the assassin's shroud power: "Once per turn, as a free action you may move your assassin's shrouds to another enemy. That enemy becomes your assassin's shroud target. Special: Once per round when the target of your assassin's shroud dies, you can, as an...

    Rule of Three 3/11/11

Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Article (Rule-of-Three: 04/11/2011) Hints of a shadow leader class. Also, why exactly can't they just issue errata for original assassin to make shrouds behave as the author ( @mearls ) suggested? It's not like they don't have to power...

Amazon listing for the Book of Vile Darkness

I'd say rare. The common form would just be clothes pins. The uncommon form would be something like, "nipple clamps of somewhat impressive torture."

Amazon listing for the Book of Vile Darkness

The Sharktapus basically already exists. It was a squid + shark though. And it was called the "Squark."

April Dungeon and Dragon (at last) ToC is up

I'm guessing the feat article will allow for multiclassing into/out of essentials classes. If we are lucky they will also revisit some of the feats that have rough stat requirements (the mastery feats, for example).

Amazon listing for the Book of Vile Darkness

It is rather odd given all that talk about how they don't want to add further bloat but rather provide support for what is already in the game. Then they release vampires and shades and blade singers and vyrloka into the already crowded race and class pool. Hey, here are some things that are...

    Legends and Lore: Balance

I just checked and there is precedence for this. Check out the Planeshifter paragon path from Manual of the Planes. They get a level 12 encounter utility power called, Quick Portal: This basically lets the wizard cast the teleportation ritual as a standard action at high cost to his health...

    Legends and Lore: Balance

Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Article (Balance of Power) No strong conclusions but a good summary of the various ways in which "class balance" can be interpreted. Random aside: I've always wondered whether wizards/sorcerers/other casters could be given their...

What does the Artificer, Seeker and Runepriest need?

The artificer could use some more powers to support the wisdom build. As it stands, the constitution build has the majority of the power riders. The dragon article last year helped a bit but was enough. The seeker needs powers that incapacitate enemies: blinded, stunned, dazed, dominated...

Robert J. Schwalb Blog Discussion; Feats: Do We need them?

I agree with this, especially with regard to racial abilities/features improving as one progresses. It would do a lot more to distinguish the races and made race choice more meaningful.

    D&D 4E Vancian Magic 4e

Could a wizard have daily spell slots, encounter slots (that could be switched out during short rests), and some at-will spells? It's not a huge jump from what we currently have; the main issue is the very limited number of slots 2/3/3 that 4e characters currently have.

Robert J. Schwalb Blog Discussion; Feats: Do We need them?

I think a lot of race feats could be done away with and replaced with racial themes. Basically you could take certain utility or attack abilities instead of class powers at certain levels. It seems like they are testing that approach out with some of the new races in Heroes of Shadow. Themes...

    March 2011 Errata

I don't believe it will be a class compendium article (since warlock wasn't included in the original canceled book), but they did say that they were shooting for a re-visitation of the warlock (especially in terms of damage) in June. Their new errata schedule lists June and December as the...

    Class Compendium: The Warlord (Marshal)

This article contained only very minor errata. I was expecting something a bit more dramatic. It is possible that other classes will receive more substantial revisions though.

    Legends & Lore 3/12

Best example of that: New Super Mario Brothers Wii. The controls are needlessly complex. Why, for example, do I have to shake up and down on the controller to pick something up? I used to be able to do it quite simply with the old 8-bit NES controller. The motion sensor has turned into a...
