    Spell Resistance

Wow. I had to read this two or three times to get the gist of it, and I'm still not sure I got it all, but here goes. Pretty much, yeah. Something that I'm trying to do is reduce damage avoidance for everything except AC - evasion, for example, is 1/4 damage on a successful save, not NO damage...

    What's wrong with high-level/epic play?

And Merry Christmas to you. Now now, be nice. There are lots of folks who are looking for a "new" version of 3.5, one that fixes the changes - why do you think Paizo has such a huge following? 4E is a far larger change to the system than what I'm doing. Sure, if you take them directly over...

    Reducing iterative attacks

Which issue do you mean - delaying BAB, or giving monks full AB? I've already dropped the second idea.... as for the first, *everyone* gets the delayed BAB - I'm not changing any of the progressions, or giving everyone the same progression (did I give that impression? Sorry), just changing when...

    More feats, and stackable feats

Or put a cap on it - say, you can take it 5 times. Cool.

    Fighter - additional abilities

Works for me. Improved Vital Strike does pretty much the same thing (sacrifice 2 attacks to add 2 extra dice). The problem with fighters is not their AC, but their damage output relative to other PCs. I don't see how this helps.

    What's wrong with high-level/epic play?

The Golden Rule applies before you calculate the final CR. The Silver Rule is just the final CR * 0.83 (or, if it's 20+, CR -3). If you want to take an existing 3.5 monster and convert it to UK's system, just multiply by 1.5 (or dragons x2) - it's a rough estimate, but it mostly works. I've...

    What's wrong with high-level/epic play?

Bah... I can't afford 100+ dollars for the 4E books even if I wanted them, and I have little inclination to learn a new system. I'm sure 4E high-level play is smoother, but like ashockney says, it shouldn't be that hard to port some of the ideas back to 3.x. Fixing it on its own, without...

    Project Phoenix is live!

They're not unique to a given class, no, but they're still an improvement, however insignificant. In 3.5, with all the dead levels, getting even a BAB or save boost was a big deal.

    What's wrong with high-level/epic play?

In the interests of avoiding an edition war, I'll just say: YMMV. :) Oh, almost forgot: For those of you still playing 3.5... epic progressions: Use them or not? I'm talking about base classes here, not PrCs. I don't build PrCs to scale beyond their maximum level.

Just because you don't get a class ability doesn't mean you get nothing. Increases in BAB and/or saves, and getting new (levels of) spells are "goodies", too, IMO. I was fairly careful to avoid having levels where you gained nothing at all, even a BAB or save increase.

    More feats, and stackable feats

I talked to a guy this weekend who's looking for a group (like me); we hooked up through the FLGS. Anyway, he was telling me about his PC, a paladin, and he mentioned that characters didn't get enough feats - he had to "wait a long time between levels". It's a fairly common complaint, though I'm...

    Reducing iterative attacks

Oh yeah... it's +6/+11/+16... my bad. I'm not sure about eliminating them entirely. I've played 1E and 2E, so I know what it's like - it's kind of boring, getting only one attack/round. Not only that, but it severely limits combat maneuvers that use attack actions - disarm and trip, e.g. -...

    Project Phoenix is live!

Forums are up, and most of the magic items are up, along with a bunch of other stuff - I've been busy the last week. I just need to finish the magic items (a couple more days), write some discussion stuff, then it's on to epic!

    What's wrong with high-level/epic play?

Sure! It's a bit out of date (it's 3.5 rules, but written a couple years ago), but it's still good. UK's working on/has an ECL-based system, which I am eagerly looking forward to. Oh, and keep in mind that his conversion from CR --> ECL is something like ECL = CR * 2/3. So the balor, listed at...

Schools of thought--Where we all stand on the big questions

What you should do is divide this into categories, and then do a series of polls. Here are my choices, by category (cause I didn't want an economy-sized post): Settings: Medium magic (GH, 1E); Give me a base setting I’ll do the rest (1e Greyhawk); Settings and novels being separate; I only...

    What's wrong with high-level/epic play?

Wow. That's a lot of stuff. I hate say it, but their analysis is based on a faulty assumption - that the CRs are actually accurate, which they're not. I use Upper Krust's CRs, which have been thoroughly playtested and are far more accurate. That's exactly why epic play doesn't work - they...

    What's wrong with high-level/epic play?

I was referring to the one you did laying out all the combat stuff. That was MY PC, actually. And yeah, I probably wasn't - I'm not a min-maxer. :P Thanks for posting that link to the other thread; it was quite enlightening. I burned through all 15 pages (though the last 5 were a bit...

    What's wrong with high-level/epic play?

Yeah, that was the version I saw here - 1d20 for every +10, not +20. I'll check that out later when I have a chance. Do you have a copy of that spreadsheet somewhere? .... Wow. +26 for a low save?? I have a L45 PC I rolled up for a high-level playtest, and her low saves aren't even that high...

    What's wrong with high-level/epic play?

Fixed that too. You can use it against a target, in which case it can destroy a single item (Fort save resists) or automatically dispel a single spell; otherwise it acts like a dispel with no CL cap. I also fixed some of the other problematic spells like gate (dropped the calling part), wish...

    Project Phoenix is live!

Umm... not really. They lose a single attack, but at higher levels, they can make a flurry as a standard action instead of a full-round action. That's a HUGE boost, IMO. Can't realy argue with that. Umm... did you look at the higher-level monks? The average AC (sans equipment) is 2-3 points...
