    Are we fair to WotC?

To be fair, I've been playing 0-hero since '78; continuous play is right there in the rules (xp/levels) ... but, I can't help bu feel a pseudo board game like sandbox structure, with pre-gen cards is a good direction to go .. at least as an intro-game. I look at my zombicide and WHFRP and can't...

    D&D 5E Subclasses/choice points at 3rd level

In a country where microwave ovens come with a warning about attempting to dry pets in them, I've give up reasonable expectations. But getting news younger players and DMs into the game is critical, get them to play 4 or 5 times with the new game is paramount. To me, variations in when classes...

D&D 5E Daily Limits on Rage and Wild Shape

I agree on the wildshape, there isn't that much power in it, but maybe limit the healing to the first time after the hero takes damage in a day. Rage is too powerful as it stands for an encounter power and needs a check (say Fort DC 20 after 1st round to sustain), a resource cost (1 die per...

    D&D 5E Subclasses/choice points at 3rd level

I'm not sure that this is the same target audience as MtG, especially listening to branding podcast. I don't subscribe to the "if your too dumb to work it out, tough" mentality, and think we should be doing everything possible to make the game inclusive. If that means a few levels of symmetry...

    D&D 5E Subclasses/choice points at 3rd level

I disagree. At this tier they need to be a simple and clear as possible for new players and DMs to encourage them to keep on playing to next level. Little differences that make sense to us as mature players can be confusing and indecipherable to newbies.

    D&D 5E Subclasses/choice points at 3rd level

Given that this is the "beginner" series, 1-3 level, they should be at be same point, simply for consistency and ease. Any confusion for new players ad DMs has the opportunity to bring playing he game to a halt as players look up rules... Don't do it.

    Are we fair to WotC?

@VyvyanBasterd Paizo subscription model aside, which is really for module content anyway, this is pretty much the model. The PRD gives you all the rules for free, all of them, but if you want it pretty, or want content to playhe game, or battle maps for the encounters, or pretty miniatures to...

D&D 5E Final playtest packet due in mid September.

I think they've been balancing all along. What you see as lateral moves I probably see as balancing decisions, such as all the changes around superiority dice, changes to barbarian, spell damage on spells, and I can't remember but didn't hit points go through iterations n some classes? Is it...

D&D 5E Is it just me or have rogues lost the ability to climb?

Climb is an interesting skill because it really highlights a problem with the D&D ability scores. Sure, strength is important in climbing, but its the strength/weight ratio. Watch technical climbers, parkour or gymnasts who really make a mockery of what we would consider difficult for a human to...

I don't think so. I think that they will make alterations to the cause of the flaw, play test internally, then incorporate.

D&D 5E Final playtest packet due in mid September.

from the link "RPG playtests tend to focus more on ensuring that the game's mechanics are balanced and that the game flows smoothly in play. It is also more typical to see feedback from players cause game mechanics to be adjusted or altered." In what way as the "playtest" not done this?
