    Allegories of Material Spell Components

yeah, that's probably it. Didn't know that expression (I come from Germany), but it sounds right! You're right, we know that expression here, too. That's probably what they intended. But why the powdered animal hoof? They do. They contain a lot of Vitamin A, which is needed for proper vision...

    Allegories of Material Spell Components

I always wondered why certain spells had these strange material spell components. I know, it's magic, but if you want, you can see some "logic" behind most spell components. The designers apparently wanted to create some sort of allegory. For example, fireball needs sulphur and bat guano, which...

    Bead of Karma pricing question

How much does a Bead of Karma cost, anyway? from the SRD [insertion mine]: Perhaps my calculator is broken, but when I take a complete (standard) strand for 25,800 and take away the bead of healing for 9,000 and the bead of smiting for 16,800 I end up with a bargain 0 gp for the remaining...

Please critique my Summon Monster spreadsheet

Sorry if I was unclear. I don't want to keep anything secret. The augment summoning calculations are NOT calculated on the sheet, I pre-calculated them and just typed them as plain text into each cell. Basically, there are two rows for each monster, one with a.s. and one without (you can see...

Please critique my Summon Monster spreadsheet

A.S. changes all of the damages (the amount varies depending on whether it's a primary, secondary or solitary natural weapon) and HP. Regarding saves, only the Fort save is changed... :) The to-hit bonuses are not changed if the monster has weapon finesse (and a higher Dex than Str score after...

Please critique my Summon Monster spreadsheet

[Edited attachment on my initial post to the most updated version] Plan - yes, time - not in the moment... But hopefully at some timepoint in the future... Unfortunately, if I write protect the whole sheet, one cannot select something from the drop-down menus anymore. The solution would be to...

Please critique my Summon Monster spreadsheet

Thanks for the hint, filename changed. That would certainly do it. I thought about write-protecting the whole spreadsheet in order to prevent accidental editing, but decided against that, I didn't want to incapacitate you folks... But if bad comes to worse and you can't undo, just download the...

Please critique my Summon Monster spreadsheet

Thought I'd share this with you, I find it helpful. I created this because I always found it ardous to calculate the final stats of summonable monsters time and again. Ever tried to find out the poison save DC for a gargantuan fiendish monstrous scorpion that was summoned by someone with the...

    Templating Vermin

So when you summon a fiendish monstrous spider, it is of the type Magical Beast, and has the subtypes Augmented Vermin and Extraplanar. Augmented vermin loses its traits, among them the Mindless trait. A while ago, I was looking for the answer myself, and that is the best I got. Note also that...

Is celestial vermin not mindless anymore?

Sounds logical. But do they speak, then? The Celestial giant fire beetle is an example from the Summon Monster I list. -p.

    Summoned monsters initiative and action

On the first round, you start casting the spell, casting time 1 full round. That means you take a full-round action in rd 1 and continue casting until just before your initiative in round 2. On your initiative count in round 2 the monster appears, and it may act normally. So it is your option...

Is celestial vermin not mindless anymore?

damage from constrict, rend, rake & trample

Edited my first post, because rake damage, as a secondary attack, uses only half the strength modifier. in 3.0, the Giant Octopus also had Str 20, but you are right that the constriction damage in 3.0 also was 2d8+6. Might actually be an editing error. I hope you're right. -p.

damage from constrict, rend, rake & trample

Which of these monster special attacks are strength-based? I am working on a handy little spreadsheet where the most important abilities of summoned monsters are summarized, including the augment summoning feat, which increases the strength of summoned monsters by 4. It is clear that all attack...
